Davis High's Anabell Briggs serves the ball during a 6A volleyball state tournament match Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 at Utah Valley University.

At 11:39 p.m. Thursday night at Utah Valley University, No. 14 Davis High volleyball finished off a four-set win over No. 11 Copper Hills in the sixth-place consolation bracket of the 6A state tournament.

The Darts came back Friday morning, won both their matches and rallied for a sixth-place finish.

Davis (11-16) beat No. 10 Syracuse in five sets Friday morning (25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-11), then beat No. 12 Westlake in the sixth-place match in four sets (20-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-22).

Anabell Briggs had 31 kills and 30 digs between the two matches for the Darts and Loryn Helgesen had 24 kills with seven aces and six blocks.

“As a team, we struggled with finding our stride in our tough region. For us, the state tournament was about everyone coming together, finding their role, and performing that role with full effort,” Davis coach McKay Barker said. “Every team member got on board with that and we were able to pull out a pretty remarkable finish against some extremely competitive teams.

“We knew our ranking did not reflect the team that we are and our team worked hard to prove that this weekend.”

No. 6 Weber, which fell in the quarterfinals late Thursday night against No. 3 Bingham, beat No. 7 Herriman in five sets in the fifth-place bracket (25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10) before losing in straight sets to No. 4 Pleasant Grove in the fifth-place match.

The Warriors, who won Region 1 this season, finished the season with a 26-6 record and took seventh place at the 6A tournament.

Saturday’s 6A semifinals at UVU feature No. 1 Skyridge against No. 5 Corner Canyon and No. 2 Lone Peak against No. 3 Bingham, with both semifinals at 11:30 a.m. and the title match scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

In the 5A tournament fifth-place bracket, No. 11 Northridge fell in four sets to No. 7 Skyline (18-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-14) to end its season with a 12-12 record.

Saturday’s 5A semifinals feature No. 1 Maple Mountain against No. 4 Woods Cross, and No. 2 Bountiful against No. 14 Alta, with both semifinals at 10 a.m. and the title match at 4 p.m.
