Prep football playoff roundup: Davis falls to Lehi again; Bountiful wins in OT
LEHI — Tradon Bessinger threw three touchdown passes to Kash Gates but No. 6 Davis High football fell 52-21 at No. 3 Lehi (10-2) in the 6A quarterfinals Friday.
Davis took a 7-3 lead at the 2:47 mark of the first quarter on a 2-yard fade pass from Bessinger to Gates. Lehi responded with 42 consecutive points.
Gates and Bessinger connected for scoring strikes of 6 and 12 yards, the last coming with 8:16 left in the game to make the score 45-21.
Bessinger completed 30 of 45 attempts for 295 yards and two interceptions to go with his three touchdowns. Max Martineau added 60 yards on 4 of 6 passing.
Gates had 13 catches for 146 yards and three scores. Bessinger led the Darts in rushing with 24 yards.
Davis ends the season with a 10-2 record, with both losses to Lehi.
BOUNTIFUL 36, SPRINGVILLE 35 (OT)
SPRINGVILLE — Faletau Satuala scored in overtime on an 11-yard run, then Owen Geilman converted a two-point run to lift No. 10 Bountiful to a 5A quarterfinals upset win at No. 2 Springville (9-3).
Siaki Fekitoa scored three rushing touchdowns for Bountiful (9-4). Fekitoa scored on a 6-yard saunter to tie the score 7-7 at the 4:21 mark in the first quarter. Fekitoa added a 1-yard dive for a 14-14 tie with 7:12 left in the first half.
The Redhawks trailed 21-14 at the break, then Geilman found Satuala for a 12-yard touchdown pass for a 21-21 tie. Fekitoa ran 6 yards for a score and a 28-28 tie with 1:03 left in regulation.
Springville scored on the first possession of overtime, setting up the Redhawks for the game-winner.
Bountiful advances to face No. 11 Alta in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Rice-Eccles Stadium. It’s the school’s first semifinal appearance since 2011.
