Morgan and Ogden’s high school volleyball teams have received a bye straight to the second round of the 3A state volleyball tournament.

The UHSAA unveiled state tournament brackets Wednesday morning for 4A, 3A and 2A classifications, and the defending 3A state champion Trojans (22-6) earned the No. 2 seed following an unbeaten Region 13 title.

Ogden (18-11) is the No. 7 seed in 3A. The Tigers face No. 10 Richfield at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m., while Morgan will face the winner of Saturday’s first-round match between Layton Christian and Judge Memorial.

Should both Morgan and Ogden win their second-round matches, they meet later Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

The 2A bracket has 29 teams, so only the top three teams get a first-round bye. St. Joseph Catholic was two spots out of that range, earning a No. 5 seed following a 21-3 regular season.

The Jayhawks will play at home at 1 p.m. Saturday against No. 28 American Prep-West Valley, whom they didn’t face this year.

Three players crossed the 100-kill mark for St. Joseph this year, led by Brazilian junior Laura Skerkoski’s 215 kills and .366 hitting percentage.

4A BRACKET

The 4A tournament runs Oct. 21-26. The first round is at the home sites on Oct. 21, with the second round onward at Utah Valley University from Oct. 25-26.

The 3A tournament has the same dates as the 4A tournament.
