Ogden's Case Crowther, center, dives for a dig against Morgan on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Ogden.

Northern Utah softball, baseball and boys volleyball teams in 4A and 3A classifications know their state playoff destinations as the UHSAA released brackets for those sports Wednesday morning.

Morgan High softball is the top seed among area teams across these three sports, while a few programs missed the cut line and saw their seasons end. Bracket seeding is determined by an RPI formula that factors winning percentage and strength of schedule.

Below is a rundown of each sport’s playoff in those two classifications and where Northern Utah teams landed. Full brackets can be found at www.uhsaa.org.

SOFTBALL

4A PLAYOFFS

The 4A softball tournament is contested by the top 24 of 26 teams in the classification. The top eight seeds bye while seeds 9-24 contest a first-round, best-of-three series.

Bear River (13-7) is the No. 7 seed and hosts a best-of-three super regional series against the winner of No. 10 Tooele and No. 23 Park City on May 9-10.

Survivors of the super regional round advance to double-elimination bracket play, with the first two days May 15-16 at the Spanish Fork softball complex deciding who reaches the championship series. The championship is a best-of-three series held May 17-18 at BYU.

3A PLAYOFFS

All 19 teams make the 3A softball bracket, with seeds 14-19 contesting play-in games. After that, the remaining 16 teams play a true double-elimination bracket. The top four seeds host pods for play-in and first-round games on Saturday, May 4. After the first day, the bracket concludes May 9-11 at the Spanish Fork softball complex. The one-loss bracket final is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, with the championship and if-necessary games following right after.

No. 4 Morgan (16-8) is a pod host, facing No. 13 Richfield at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4. No. 5 Carbon and No. 12 Manti also play at Morgan, and the losers of the two games face off that evening in an elimination game.

Ogden and Ben Lomond each find themselves in play-in games.

No. 14 Ogden (4-14) faces No. 19 Summit Academy on Saturday morning at South Summit, with the winner advancing to face No. 3 South Summit.

No. 17 Ben Lomond (3-13) faces No. 16 American Leadership Academy at Emery, with the winner advancing to face No. 1 Emery.

BASEBALL

4A PLAYOFFS

The 4A baseball bracket is the same as 4A softball, with seeds 9-24 contesting first-round series and the top eight getting byes to the super regional round.

Bear River (19-6) lands as the No. 5 seed and will host the winner between No. 12 Mountain Crest and No. 21 Tooele in a best-of-three series May 9-10.

After that, games move to Salt Lake Community College for double-elimination bracket play May 13-16. The last two remaining contest a best-of-three championship series May 17-18 at SLCC.

3A PLAYOFFS

The top 16 of 18 3A baseball teams make the playoff bracket, staging eight best-of-three series to set up a double-elimination bracket for the winners.

Ben Lomond went 1-12 and finished 18th, missing the playoffs.

No. 5 Morgan (17-7) hosts a home series Thursday and Friday, May 2-3, against No. 12 Summit Academy. No. 10 Ogden (9-12) travels to No. 7 Union.

The remaining eight teams play a double-elimination bracket May 6-9 at Kearns High School. The final two teams play a best-of-three championship series May 10-11 at Kearns HS.
