SPANISH FORK -- No. 7 Bear River High softball used small-ball to score three runs in the top of the seventh to eliminate No. 3 Snow Canyon (19-8) in a 9-6 victory Wednesday evening, living to play another day in the 4A state tournament.

Bella Douglas batted 4 for 4 with a triple, double, five RBIs and three runs scored to lead Bear River at the plate. Alex Udy homered and drove in three runs. Aubree Fry batted 2 for 4 and scored twice. Katelyn Wilson struck out five, walked zero, and allowed three runs on six hits over six innings in the circle.

Bear River (16-9) plays No. 6 Payson at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and could play up to three elimination games in the same day as bracket play concludes to determine the two teams that reach the state championship series.

DESERT HILLS 6, BEAR RIVER 2

SPANISH FORK -- Bear River managed three hits and committed three errors, dooming the Bears to a loss Wednesday afternoon and sending them to the one-loss bracket in the 4A state tournament.

Kendyl Archibald singled and drove in a run for Bear River. Alex Udy also had an RBI.

BASEBALL

BEAR RIVER 9, DESERT HILLS 6 (8)

WEST JORDAN -- No. 5 Bear River baseball got revenge on a loss to No. 4 Desert Hills earlier in the week with a 9-6, extra-inning victory over the Thunder on Wednesday afternoon to stay alive in the 4A state tournament.

Gehrig Marble tripled, doubled and drove in three runs to lead Bear River. Kolton Summers hit 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Holden Potter drove in two. Ethan Higgs gave up one run on two hits over the final 2 2/3 innings for the win.

After press time, Bear River (22-7) played against No. 1 Dixie late Wednesday night in a matchup to decide a bid to the state championship series. BR must defeat Dixie twice; with a win Wednesday night, BR would play Dixie again at 7 p.m. Thursday. A Dixie win sends the Flyers to the title series.
