Fremont helmets rest in the sun before kickoff versus Mountain Ridge on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, in Plain City. While high school football in Utah doesn’t kick off for another few weeks, several Northern Utah programs have announced and are gearing up for showcase scrimmages on Aug. 8.
Monday marks the first official day of practices in the state, and Aug. 8, marks the end of the typical boot camp period. The UHSAA provides general guidelines for padded camp, including a three-day maximum when it comes to full pads.
It’ll be a first-look opportunity for the upcoming prep season, and it’ll be done a bit differently, whichever direction you look.
In Kaysville, Davis High has issued a save-the-date via social media for what’s been dubbed a “Davis High Football Community Event,” featuring a brown-and-gold scrimmage, performances by the school’s cheer and dance squads and a fireworks display.

Fremont names Madsen head girls soccer coach
Just a few weeks before the season opener, Fremont has tabbed Heath Madsen as the school’s next head girls soccer coach following the departure of Alain Reyes after two seasons.
Madsen’s been part of the program for six seasons, including the final two of Reyes’ 6-27 tenure as the Silverwolves head coach. He’ll inherit a largely young, familiar roster absent of goalkeeper Baylee Shrock, who graduated this past spring.
Fremont opens the season at Westlake on Aug. 6.
