Davis High's Cayman Sanchez reacts during a region baseball game versus Layton on Friday, April 25, 2025, in Kaysville.

Eleven hits produced eight runs for No. 3 Davis, which outperformed No. 11 Herriman 8-2 in the opening round of 6A state baseball bracket play at Utah Valley University’s UCCU BallPark on Monday afternoon.

Lincoln Green produced four innings of three-hit, no-run baseball with three strikeouts.

Davis (22-6) returns to Orem to face No. 10 Lehi (16-13), which is fresh off an 8-2 win over No. 2 Pleasant Grove, in the winner’s portion of bracket play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The losing team meets the winner of No. 2 Pleasant Grove/No. 11 Herriman on Wednesday at UVU.

Wally Grant lined an out-out single out into right field, scoring Owen Talbot, advancing to second base on an error at first, for the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Grant crossed home before the end of the inning, as Carter Garrett delivered Herriman starting pitcher Mason Greeno’s second earned run of the afternoon.

Maintaining his 2-0 cushion, Green went 1-2-3 with the Darts and delivered his first strikeout versus Logan Gregory in the top of the second. He’d pick up two more strikeouts in another scoreless third frame for the Mustangs.

Tyson Baggett made more noise for Davis, homering a two-run bomb past the right wall for a 4-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Kaleb Weaver took a pitch to reach base, and Talbot singled his way into scoring position, but Greeno stranded both hits to end the inning.

Relieving Green, Croydon Christensen struck out Boston Jacobsen to save Davis from a bases-loaded situation following two hits and a walk conceded to Herriman in the top of the fifth. Cayman Sanchez handed Davis some insurance in the bottom side, piping one into center field for a fifth unanswered run.

Herriman broke its silence atop the sixth, benefiting from a Kayson Thomas RBI double played to Baggett in left field. Logan Gregory beat out Davis’ side-inning double play for a second run.

Jaxon Marble picked up his first RBI in the sixth, driving home Talbot, reaching base on a walk, for a 6-2 lead with two outs. With his first triple this season, Garrett bumped the Darts to eight runs by the end of the sixth. Green and the Darts rendered Herriman scoreless in the top of the seventh.

Garrett (3-for-4) led Davis with three RBI; Baggett (1-for-3) added two RBI; Sanchez (2-for-3), Marble (2-for-4) and Grant (1-for-4) each added a run.
