Boys volleyball playoffs: Ogden checks in as Northern Utah’s lone No. 1 seed

The Tigers, which fell a game shy of last year’s title match, finished 19-6 overall and shared a region title with Morgan, who, as the No. 2 seed, joins Ogden with receiving a first-round bye. Ogden has a potential matchup with crosstown foe Ben Lomond (5-12) in the next round. The No. 8 seed Scots host No. 9 Carbon on Saturday, May 2.
In 5A, No. 7 Box Elder received a first-round bye while Roy High missed the cut. In 6A, every Northern Utah school received a first-round bye.
All classes will contend first-round matches on Saturday at varying times. All subsequent rounds are contested May 6-9 at Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center in Orem.

Second round at UVU (May 2): No. 9 Davis at No. 8 Cedar Valley, 3:30 p.m.; No. 13 Layton at No. 4 Herriman, 3:30 p.m.; No. 15 Syracuse at No. 2 Bingham, 5 p.m.; No. 10 Weber High at No. 7 Farmington, 5 p.m.
5A PLAYOFF (24 teams)
First round at home sites (May 2): No. 20 West Field at No. 13 Taylorsville, 10 a.m.; No. 21 Fremont at No. 12 Salem Hills, 10 a.m.; No. 19 Granger at No. 14 Clearfield, 10 a.m.; No. 24 Northridge at No. 9 Springville, 2 p.m.
Second round at UVU (May 6): No. 7 Box Elder vs. No. 23 Hillcrest/No. 10 Viewmont, 10:30 a.m.
4A PLAYOFF (24 teams)
First round at home sites (May 2): No. 22 Bear River at No. 11 Provo, 2 p.m.
3A PLAYOFF (11 teams)
First round at home sites (May 2): No. 9 Carbon at No. 8 Ben Lomond, 2 p.m.
Second round at UVU (May 8): No. 1 Ogden vs. No. 8 Ben Lomond/No. 9 Carbon, 9 a.m.; No. 2 Morgan vs. No. 7 Logan/No. 10 Union, 10:30 a.m.
2A PLAYOFF (12 teams)
First round at home sites (May 2): No. 9 Wasatch Academy at No. 8 Utah Military-Hill Field, 2 p.m.
4A SOFTBALL
Defending state champion Bear River softball checked into the 4A state playoff bracket as the No. 2 seed when the UHSAA released its first round of softball brackets on Wednesday.
The Bears, finishing the regular season 21-6 overall and securing the program’s 18th region title, will bypass regionals to meet the winner of No. 15 Timpanogos and No. 18 Mountain View in super regionals on May 7-8 at home sites.
In 4A, regional and super regional rounds are contested at home sites. Bracket play, held May 13-14, will be played at the Spanish Fork Sports Park. The best-of-3 final series is scheduled May 15-16 at BYU.
