PLEASANT VIEW – Cool and collected, West Field senior Ethan Luna buried his birdie putt ending his round unsure of his final tally. It’s a seemingly good habit for any golfer, but Luna brings a C’est la vie approach to every stroke: “Ball goes in, ball goes in.”
Beginning his day at The Barn with a 15-footer on the second hole, Luna wrapped his fourth individual high school victory with six more such birdies for a season-low 63 on the afternoon.
“It’s about playing my golf and just having a good mentality,” Luna said.
“I just took it one shot at a time and picked a target line, go from there, hit the green and if I make the putt, I make the putt… The putter was really good today. I’d definitely say it helped me on three, and on eight, I made a 25-footer for birdie and then just kept it going.”
Luna finished his round five strokes better than runner-up Dallas Jiron (2nd, 68) of the first-place Fremont Silverwolves, which finished the day shooting a course-low 286 against WF’s 287.

Nevertheless, it’s the second consecutive top-2 finish for the Longhorns and their first on the Region calendar in 2026. Luna, Roc Hansen (T-5th, 72), Daxton Seager (T-14th, 76), and Lincoln Miller (T-14th, 76) all represented West Field in the top 15. Last week, West Field carded 294 as a program at the Northern Utah Invitational at Eagle Mountain in Brigham City.
Every week is an opportunity, and Luna is glad to hit the links with anyone on the team.
“I think there’s a dynamic with all of the guys,” Luna said. “I enjoy playing golf with all of them.”
Luna’s played a lot of golf with a lot of golfers, including his father, Dirk Watson.
Growing interest in golf as a freshman, Luna spends many a weekend at Tee Box Training, a growing Utah golf simulator company founded in Uintah by Weber State alum Preston Unck; the project already features 100-plus locations nationwide, including 26 in the Beehive State.
It’s popular technology, and exposed Luna to several local stars, including recent BYU signee Parker Bunn. Luna is coming off arguably his best summer yet with five individual wins on the Utah Junior PGA circuit and recent qualifying bid for the Utah Open this weekend in Provo.
“It helped me build and I learned a lot of new things and made a lot of new friends,” Luna, the 2026 Utah Junior PGA Boys Golfer of the Year, said.
One of those friends, teammate and junior Mack Herzog, carding a 67 last week at Eagle Mountain, is part of Luna’s dream quartet including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
The next Region 5 regular-season tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Crane Field Golf Course in Clinton.
