Beginning Thursday and Friday, KSL will broadcast high school football games twice a week on its broadcast station (KSL Channel 5.3) and live stream a handful of games at sports.ksl.com. An expanded partnership with the UHSAA will feature postseason football broadcasts, including state championships, the station announced during its football schedule reveal program last week.

Expanding to accommodate the playoffs, KSL is now the “new TV home for UHSAA championship events,” per their announcement. Previously, KJZZ (Channel 14) served as the longtime home of high school football in the state.

Northern Utah schools will enjoy several broadcasts this season, including three games either broadcasting or streaming online in Week 1.

Roy High taps next head baseball coach

Roy High introduced Jesse Branson as its next head baseball coach late last week following an extensive search.

Branson replaces Monty Vorwaller, now the school’s athletic director, beginning with the 2027 season after three seasons coaching prep baseball at Chapparal High School in Parker, Colorado, a city of roughly 65,000 residents.

Before his 20-year coaching career, Branson played at College of Southern Idaho and Eastern New Mexico University.

“(Branson) brings more than 20 years of coaching, teaching, and leadership experience and is committed to building a championship-caliber culture focused on player development, character, accountability, and a love for the game,” the school shared via Instagram.

Last year, Roy finished the regular season 12-17 overall and 6-12 in Region 5.

Bonneville seeking new athletic director

An athletic director opportunity is available at Bonneville High.

Rick Corbridge, serving as Bonneville’s athletic director since 2022, stepped down from his post late this summer for a teaching position at Wahlquist Junior High, he told the Standard-Examiner on Sunday.

Interviews for the position continued through last week, Corbridge said, but it remains unclear when the position will be filled.
