Girls basketball playoffs: Fremont nets first-round bye in 5A; Bonneville, West Field set for Region 5 rematch

Fremont's Abigail Christensen moves the ball out of harm's way during a region girls basketball contest at Box Elder on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, in Brigham City.Northern Utah prospect Abigail Christensen and Fremont girls basketball captured the program’s first region title in three years this season, and were rewarded with the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the 5A state tournament bracket, released by the UHSAA on Saturday morning.
Fremont (20-3, 12-0 Region 1), with a bye in hand, will host the winner of No. 13 Granger/No. 20 Spanish Fork in a second-round home site matchup on Feb. 19.
Region 5 runner-up Clearfield (15-8, 10-2), the No. 11 seed, hosts a first-round matchup with No. 22 Brighton on Feb. 17; That fourth quadrant includes No. 19 Box Elder (9-14, 4-8), traveling to No. 14 Payson for a chance at the second round.
In the first quadrant, No. 16 West Field (11-12, 6-6) and N0. 17 Bonneville (11-12, 6-6) will meet for a third time this season; Rick Stoeckl’s Longhorns defeated the Lakers twice in the regular season (a 64-60 overtime road win on Jan. 9, and a 59-36 win at home on Feb. 4).
All first and second-round matchups are contested Feb. 17-19 at home sites; All subsequent matchups will be held Feb. 23-27 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Roy High (0-22, 0-12) did not make the playoff cut.

First round (Feb. 17): No. 17 Bonneville (11-12) at No. 16 West Field (11-12), 7 p.m.; No. 19 Box Elder (9-14) at No. 14 Payson (8-15), 7 p.m.; No. 22 Brighton (5-16) at No. 11 Clearfield (15-8), 7 p.m.
Second round (Feb. 19): No. 4 Fremont (20-3) vs. No. 13 Granger (11-12)/No. 20 Spanish Fork (8-15), 7 p.m.
