Davis High coach Todd Street addresses the team following a 10-0 win at Fremont in a nonregion softball contest on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Fremont High School in Plain City.

PLAIN CITY – There’s no shortage of talented Northern Utah softball squads tearing it up across Regions 1 and 5 as March kicks into high gear.

Off to an 8-1 start, Serena Roth and Davis High are making their nonregion slate a memorable one following a 10-0 shutout over 5A Fremont on Friday.

Roth’s fifth win of her senior campaign was a no-hitter, as the SLCC commit tallied eight strikeouts and a single walk in four innings this weekend. Fellow senior Campbell Christensen stepped in and allowed just one hit, a walk, and added two more strikeouts in run-ruling the Silverwolves.

This latest win comes after giving up a 19-3 home loss to Riverton last Wednesday. Nevertheless, Davis is hard at work this month, with key wins over defending 4A champ Bear River, defending 3A champ Grantsville, Ridgeline, Bountiful and now Fremont.

Davis ends its nonregion slate on Wednesday at Pleasant Grove ahead of its three-game series at Syracuse, coming off back-to-back wins, to open region.

Davis High's Serena Roth looks for a signal during a nonregion softball contest on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Fremont High School in Plain City.

“We have some great leadership with our senior group,” Roth, the 2024 All-Area POY, said following Friday’s win.

“(Riley Jaques and Ella Nielson), they’ve been amazing newcomers. We have really appreciated them. Every single senior puts in the effort, every single senior plays and we’re all so good – I love all of them.”

Seven seniors are steering the ship at Davis this spring, including shortstop Jewel Korth, second baseman Adelyn Turpin, third baseman Koryn Mafi and left fielder Chloe Peery. Then-No. 4 Lehi bumped No. 5 Davis in the opening round of bracket play in last year’s 6A state softball tourney.

First baseman Nielson and All-Area catcher Jaques each started their prep careers at other high schools, but each made their way to Davis last season to play out their final seasons for seven-year Darts coach Todd Street.

Jaques produced the first homer of her senior season, a two-run shot to lead Fremont 8-nil in the top of the sixth, against Adelaide Johnsen last Friday.

“I just knew she was going to give me a couple of the zone, and then she’d give me one right in the zone – I was just waiting for that pitch,” Jaques said.

Jaques and Roth each finished their latest outing with two RBI on a hit or more as the Darts tallied 10 runs on 14 hits to defeat Fremont on the road.

A tight associate of Roth’s, Jaques, who began her career at Layton, said she’s grateful for the opportunity in front of her – wherever the season takes her.

Undecided on her college plans, Jaques is in for the here and now.

“It’s a great group – we all grew up together and it’s been really fun,” Jaques said. “I was supposed to go to Davis, but I came back where I’m supposed to be. I’m happy to be here. After a couple of years of putting the pressure on myself, I’m excited just to let loose and have fun. I know my skill; I’ve built it for many years.”

Likewise, Roth isn’t worried about what lies ahead.

While many girls cross paths through club softball, the high school season brings out a quality that Roth considers inimitable before a busy summer.

“Yeah, it’s really cool – club ball is probably one of my favorite things,” Roth said. “But I love high school, playing with all these people I don’t play with in the club, and it gives me so many experiences that I only get in high school. It’s just broadening my experience for college and everything like that.”
