KAYSVILLE – Bode Sparrow’s college plans are decided, and they’re not in Utah.

Oklahoma landed the four-star Davis High senior’s commitment on Friday during a live commitment ceremony at the school. Sparrow tapped the Sooners over two other Power Four offers from BYU and Utah in the Big 12.

Sparrow received his first offer to play college football from BYU head coach Kalani Sitake when the Kaysville star was just 14 years old. He was still in junior high at the time, Davis head coach Scott Peery told the Standard-Examiner, when Peery pulled him out of class to relay the good news.

Nonetheless, Sparrow pulled out a crimson cap revealing the trademark “OU” emblem to an ecstatic crowd at Davis High School.

“It truly was a hard decision,” Sparrow said.”I have really good relationships with (BYU and Utah) and it’s convenient with them being close, all these people in the state being able to see me, but I think in the end I needed to do what’s best for me and where I can be the best version of myself.”

It was Brent Venables and a visit to Norman, Oklahoma, that sold Sparrow a future in the SEC.

The Sooners are coming off their best finish (10-3, 6-2 SEC) since moving on from the Big 12, as well as their fifth College Football Playoff appearance and first since Venables replaced Lincoln Riley in 2022.

“I’ll just say that (Oklahoma) program is super family-oriented,” Sparrow said.

“I absorbed and was attracted to that. It just fit me and who I am… It’s a good time to settle down, get a decision made – it was a stressful week – but that’s just the reality of it. I think now that it’s behind me I’ll be ready to lock in and be ready for the (2026) season.”

Making an early decision was important to Sparrow, as Utah’s top prospect in the Class of 2027 turns his complete focus toward the final season of his prep career. He enters his fourth and final season with Peery and the Darts, coming off a 10-2 finish last year and a notable double-overtime Lone Peak loss in the 6A state playoffs.

Sparrow comes from a football family. His father, Ty, helped Weber High win the 1999 Class 4A state championship and later earned All-Big Sky honors playing safety at Weber State from 2005 to 2006.

“He’s got a great head on his shoulders and he’s got a great family,” Peery said. “That dynamic, I think Bode’s created a blueprint on how to handle this situation because he’s done a great job.”

Two More Local Stars Commit to the Utes

Two more Utah 2027 products, four-star athlete Jaxton Itaaehau, Sparrow’s teammate at Davis, and three-star safety Kaleb Hall from Syracuse, committed to Utah this week.

Itaaehau is a major victory for a playmaker with 1,919 career all-purpose yards and 26 touchdowns as a Dart, including 951 receiving yards for 11 touchdowns last year. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound wideout is headed for Salt Lake despite multiple offers, including Utah State and Colorado.

A big commitment from Syracuse, Hall turned down similar offers, including USU, Boise State, UNLV, to join the new Scalley regime. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Hall listed 66 tackles, four picks and recovered two different fumbles as a junior.
