Softball playoff roundup: West Field, Clearfield advance for meeting; Bear River falls to open title series

TAYLOR — After a close call Thursday, No. 4 West Field High softball left no doubt Friday with a five-inning, 15-5 run-rule win over No. 13 Payson to claim the 5A second-round super regional series 2-0.

Rylee Andreasen and Brinklee Hadley each hit two triples for West Field (20-6). Andreasan batted 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs in the leadoff spot. Kadence Dyson also tripled. Ayzlee Sessions hit 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Hadley got the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits in four innings.

West Field advances to 5A double-elimination bracket play and will face familiar foe and No. 5 seed Clearfield at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Both teams will play again at 12:30 p.m.

CLEARFIELD 5, BOUNTIFUL 3

CLEARFIELD — No. 12 Bountiful rallied for three runs (one earned) in the top of the sixth but No. 5 Clearfield answered with the winning runs in the bottom half to win the 5A second-round super regional series 2-0.

Clearfield (19-5) used a walk and an error to set the table for Addyson Haddock to reach via a fly-ball error, scoring the go-ahead runs. Teaghan McNabb relieved Hannah Hensley in the sixth and struck out two, walked one and allowed zero runs to her ledger on zero hits in the final two innings.

Skyler Davis hit an RBI triple in the fourth for Clearfield’s only RBI. Capri Harris batted 2 for 3 with a double.

Clearfield faces West Field in bracket play Tuesday.

BOX ELDER 15, CYPRUS 0

BRIGHAM CITY — No. 2 Box Elder beat No. 15 Cyprus 15-0 in four innings for the second straight day, allowing one hit in eight innings of the 5A second-round super regional series.

Kennadie Blackmer pitched two scoreless with five strikeouts for Box Elder (25-3). Maycie Moss picked up the other two innings, striking out two and allowing one hit. Blackmer and Maclee Willard each homered at the plate. Quincey Lish and Izibel Mason combined to bat 6 for 7 with six RBIs.

The Bees advance to 5A double-elimination bracket play at Valley Complex in Taylorsville. They’ll first play No. 7 Maple Mountain at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, then play again at 12:30 p.m.

DAVIS 18, FARMINGTON 5

KAYSVILLE — No. 5 Davis dispatched No. 12 Farmington in five innings Friday afternoon to win Game 2 of a 6A first-round super regional series, advancing with a 2-0 series win.

Cambell Christensen hit 4 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead Davis (24-6). Chloe Peery doubled and drove in three. Hadley Crowley hit a triple and a double, and Jewel Korth hit 4 for 5 with three runs scored in the leadoff spot. Christensen got the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out seven in four innings.

Davis advances to double-elimination bracket play at Valley Complex in Taylorsville. The Darts will face No. 4 Copper Hills at 3 p.m Tuesday, May 19, and, win or lose, play again at 5 p.m.

DESERT HILLS 3, BEAR RIVER 1

PROVO — No. 2 Bear River scored on an error but managed just three hits against No. 1 Desert Hills to open the 4A state championship series Friday morning at BYU.

Molly Canfield, Bri Gardiner and Marley Tisdol hit singles for Bear River (26-7). Tisdol scored in the second inning. Kate Wilson allowed two earned runs on six hits, striking out two.

Riley Greene hit a solo homer and an RBI double to lead Desert Hills (31-3) at the plate. Lulu West struck out 14 in a complete-game three-hitter.

Game 2 is 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, would follow.

MTN RIDGE 5, SYRACUSE 3

HERRIMAN — No. 11 Syracuse left the tying runs in scoring position in the top of the seventh in a tough Game 2 loss at No. 7 Mountain Ridge. The Sentinels won the 6A playoff series 2-0.

Sophia Knight hit 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for Syracuse (15-12). She singled in a run in the seventh to help the Titans threaten. Eryn Hamblin and Abby Jensen each singled, accounting for all of Syracuse’s four hits. Jensen got the hard-luck loss in the circle, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in six innings.

HERRIMAN 13, WEBER 3

HERRIMAN — No. 15 Weber led 3-2 midway through the third inning but No. 2 Herriman won in a five-inning, run-rule decision to take the 6A series 2-0.

Emery Hayes and Kaitlyn Tolman each drove in one run for Weber (6-23). Hayes, Ari Hillan and Reagan Blaisdell each singled to account for the team’s three hits.

SPANISH FORK 16, FREMONT 1

SPANISH FORK — No. 14 Fremont couldn’t stop the bats of No. 3 Spanish Fork, outhit 17-4 in a Game 2 elimination loss in a 5A second-round series.

Chloe Clark hit 2 for 2 with a double for Fremont (15-17). Ashlynn Cottle hit an RBI single.

RIVERTON 22, LAYTON 0

RIVERTON — No. 1 Riverton needed only three innings to sweep No. 16 Layton in their 6A playoff series with a Game 2 win Friday.

Layton (4-25) did not record a hit. Ryleigh Newey drew a walk.
