Farmington High's Aspen Taylor hits a shot at the 6A girls golf state tournament Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Davis Park Golf Course in Kaysville.

KAYSVILLE — Two sophomores led the charge for Northern Utah at the final day of the 6A girls golf state championship on Tuesday.

Farmington’s Aspen Taylor and Syracuse’s Kai Post finished their respective rounds on opposite ends of Davis Park Golf Course, but the latter’s fourth-place finish came down to a single stroke. Post, who bogeyed three times on the back nine, managed the better of the pair’s performances at 6-over.

Post finished four strokes higher than her first-day 74 card, but even three birdies by Taylor in the final stretch of Day 2, including on the ninth hole, weren’t enough to swing over her Region 1 neighbor.

The young Titans up-and-comer powered through a head cold this week to bring her game to the big stage. In total, Post finished 11 strokes behind individual champion Paige Anae of Herriman.

“There were a few bogeys here and there, but it just kind of added up a little bit today,” Post said.

Syracuse High's Kaitlin Glover holds her follow through watching her shot at the 6A girls golf state tournament Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Davis Park Golf Course in Kaysville.

After a top-25 finish last year, Post boiled her sophomore campaign down to an undeniable truth: you’ve gotta be near the hole to get in the hole.

“Just because people leave at the end of the year, you can’t just think it’s going to be easy,” Post said. “I think I improved a lot with just putting (and) accuracy. It’s one of the biggest things in golf: you’ve gotta be close to the pin to score well.”

Both players finished above last year’s champion, Saydie Wagner of Lone Peak, and registered their first top-5 finishes.

It’s an especially key mark for Taylor, who has consecutive top-10 finishes at state in her first two years of high school golf, and also recorded her first region championship this season with the Phoenix.

“I gained a lot of confidence knowing I belonged out there,” Taylor said.

Weber High's Taylee Vanbeekum watches a shot at the 6A girls golf state tournament Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Davis Park Golf Course in Kaysville.

Farmington featured one of the youngest representations on the course throughout the two-day tournament with freshman Claire Biddulph (tied 7th, 12-over) and sophomore Eve Wilcox (18th, 22-over) finishing in the top 25.

“We have youngsters that love it and youngsters that’re up and coming,” Taylor said. “They want to improve and want to be better and want to grind. They see a great example in Aspen and Claire … We’re solid for the next few years.”

Farmington finished tied for third with Bingham at 67-over. Syracuse finished four strokes better than American Fork for the ninth-place team slot at 138-over. Davis, Layton and Weber High didn’t qualify for a team score.

Outside the individual top 10, Davis junior Kate Monson, tying for 15th with Randli Olsen of Bingham, carded 19-over with an 11-stroke improvement on Tuesday. Outside the top 25, Layton’s Hadley Rognon tied for 45th with Sophie Cindrich of Lone Peak.
