Layton High's Karter Miller (1) pushes past Lehi's Tillman Huish (3) in a 6A boys basketball second-round playoff game Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, in Layton.

The sixth annual Great Western Summer Classic, a high school basketball tournament combining prep, club and AAU programs around the Mountain West region, returns June 3-6 at American Fork High School.

The boys programs from Davis and Layton, the defending co-champions of Utah’s 6A Region 1, will again feature at the annual showcase, with 10 games scheduled across the four-day event.

The offseason invite has won the favor of coaches like Chad Sims, who led the Darts to the 6A state title in 2025.

“The Great Western Classic is a highly respected tournament that attracts really good teams from within our state and outside of Utah,” Sims said. “It acts as a measuring stick to see where we are at this early point in the process of trying to be the best team we can be by February of next year.

“Our guys have the opportunity to continue to jell as a group while playing against teams that we don’t see very frequently during the course of a year.”

Last season, Layton finished one game better than Davis at 16-9 overall despite falling 65-51 at home to concede at least a share of the region title to the Darts. Both teams fell a game shy of a potential third matchup in consecutive postseason meetings, with a pair of second-round exits ending their playoff runs.

Davis and Layton lose a combined 14 seniors but rebuild around returning All-Area honorees Bode Sparrow (Davis) and Karter Miller (Layton).
