Prep football: Logan knocks Morgan off perch to win 3A North

By JUSTIN B. JOHNSON - Standard-Examiner | Oct 15, 2026

LOGAN — Logan High football used a short passing game and quarterback speed, and forced four Morgan turnovers to beat the Trojans 32-22 and win the 3A North region championship Thursday night.

Logan (8-2, 5-0 3A North) scored first on a 20-yard pass from Easton Favero to Royce Sargent with 11:29 left in the second quarter. The duo combined for another score from 3 yards out with 5:04 left. Thirty-eight seconds later, Ethan Carson picked off Morgan (8-2, 4-1) quarterback Owen Gilson and returned it 36 yards for a pick-six and a 20-0 lead.

The Trojans lit the scoreboard just before halftime when Gilson found Owen Belliston for a 32-yard touchdown pass and a 20-7 score. Morgan struck again on the second play of the second half when George Thurston took a short Gilson pass and weaved his way through the Logan defense for a 66-yard score.

The Grizzlies responded with a 64-yard Favero touchdown run, where the Logan quarterback outran the entire Trojan defense at the 7:14 mark of the third quarter. Favero then found Sargent for the pair’s third score, an 8-yard pass, to stunningly put Logan up 32-14 with 30 seconds left in the third.

Morgan capped the scoring with 4:09 left when Gilson found Thurston for a 4-yard score and a two-point conversion pass. The Trojans recovered an onside kick but later turned the ball over on downs.

Gilson passed for 314 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The win punctuates a marked turnaround for Logan, which went 8-23 over the previous three seasons before winning eight games in this campaign.
