Raptors answer early homers, take series from Vibes in 5-4 win
Ogden Raptors pitchers shook off three early home runs and rallied to defeat the Rocky Mountain Vibes 5-4 on Wednesday night in front of 3,432 fans at Lindquist Field to claim the three-game series 2-1 and reach 40 wins on the season.
Dusty Stroup (solo, first inning), Andres Rios (two-run, second inning) and Matt Hogan (solo, second inning) all homered off Ogden starter Jake Mulholland to put the visiting Vibes (33-35, 13-8) ahead 4-0.
But Ogden (40-29, 9-12) tied it up before RMV starter Blaine Traxel finished his five innings. Logan Williams hit a two-run single in the third inning and lefty slugger Damian Henderson cracked a two-run homer to right field in the fifth to knot the game 4-4.
The Raptors took the lead in the sixth inning against reliever Marvin Guzman when Williams singled in Nick Ultsch from second base.
Mulholland pitched through the sixth, therefore earning the win and running his season record to 9-1. Foster Pace, Brandon McCabe and Dan Kubiuk each pitched one hitless, scoreless frame to secure the win, with Kubiuk earning a save for the second straight night and adding to his league-leading total at 13.
Ogden has Thursday off before a six-game Colorado road swing split between Colorado Springs (the Vibes), and to play the team’s first games against the Northern Colorado Owlz this season, from Aug. 11-16.
