Raptors rally falls short, 20-13 hit margin not enough in 10-9 loss
The Ogden Raptors outhit the Rocky Mountain Vibes by a whopping 20-13 margin, including five hits in the ninth inning to rally, but it wasn’t enough as the Vibes claimed a 10-9 win to open a series Friday night in Colorado Springs.
Rocky Mountain (34-35, 14-8) led 8-3 after three innings thanks to a Jacob Barfield three-run homer, which eventually earned Ogden starter Mitchell Stone the loss.
Steve Barmakian hit an important two-run double in the sixth inning to put the Vibes up 10-5.
The Raptors (40-30, 9-13) got going in the ninth when Damian Henderson, Dakota Conners and Rafael Narea all singled to load the bases. Coleton Horner tripled them all in to make the game 10-8 and scored on a Cam Phelts groundout for a 10-9 score.
Nick Ultsch, who hit 3 for 4 in the game, then singled, but Reese Alexiades grounded out and the Vibes held on for the win.
Horner hit 4 for 5 and Juan Teixeira was 3 for 5.
Riley Ottesen threw four good innings of middle relief but the Barmakian two-run double was crucial. Marshall Shill threw two shutout innings, allowing one hit.
