Voyagers one-hit Raptors in 7-inning game to open series in Great Falls

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | Aug 6, 2024

Voyagers starter Jason Pineda outdueled Ogden’s Rafael Vazquez by one-hitting the Raptors in a 3-0 victory shortened to seven innings by lightning on Tuesday to open a six-game series in Great Falls, Montana.

Pineda carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh when Ogden’s Pearce Howard recorded a one-out single. Pineda then struck out the next two batters to close his performance, his only strikeouts of the game.

Pineda walked two and hit another batter. Two of those came in the first inning and Ogden (29-38, 7-12 second half) had runners on second and third with two outs before Pineda induced Howard into an inning-ending flyout.

Pineda retired the side in order from the second through the fifth innings for Great Falls (23-44, 7-12), which currently holds the worst overall record in the Pioneer League so far this season.

Vazquez allowed two earned runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one.

Great Falls scored on an RBI groundout in the first, a Jack Lynch RBI single in the third, and a stolen-base-plus-two-errors play in the sixth.

Voyagers second baseman Caden Green hit 2 for 2, accounting for 25% of the game’s hits.

The two teams play again at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
