Ogden Raptors True Fontenot (28) and Maikol Perez (51) celebrate scoring runs on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Lindquist Field in Ogden.Ogden’s push to remain relevant in the Pioneer Baseball League’s playoff picture continued this week with two wins to open the team’s road series at Grand Junction.
Since Oakland (57-17, 20-6 second half) saw its 12-game winning streak end, the Raptors’ seven-game win streak was the longest in the PBL after Wednesday’s action.
The Raptors (42-31, 16-10) are in third place in the second-half standings and tied for third with Idaho Falls (42-31, 15-11) in overall record. As Oakland and Missoula (51-22, 18-7), the first-half playoff clinchers, continue to pace the action in the second half, what happens behind them in overall record currently shapes the race for the remaining two playoff spots.
This week brings Ogden’s only series against Grand Junction (31-43, 8-18) this season.
WED: RAPTORS 10, JACKALOPES 6
Chris Sargent homered, doubled and drove in two runs, and Ogden got out to an 8-0 lead through three innings Wednesday to claim a second win in as many days on Colorado’s western slope.
With 22 games left in the season, that gives Sargent 28 home runs and 115 RBIs. The former is approaching Reese Alexiades’ franchise record for homers (29, 2023) while the latter inches closer to the league record for single-season RBIs (Rocky Mountain’s Steven Rivas, 124, 2024).
Sargent hit a solo homer in the second and an RBI double in the third. Newcomer Carson Tucker also hit a solo home run in the second inning and drove in one with a single in the third. Kenny Oyama’s two-run single and Elliott Good’s two-run double, both in the first, helped shape the early 8-0 lead.
New pitcher Jose Moreno, brought in with the release of starter Rolando Gutierrez Rosario, cruised through five innings with an 8-1 lead, allowing five hits through those frames. Moreno took the mound in the sixth, however, and gave up two two-run homers. Still up 8-5, though, it was enough to earn Moreno the win.
Carmine Lane in the seventh and Good in the eighth provided cushion from there, each hitting solo homers to get Ogden to a comfortable victory.
Lane and Good led Ogden with three hits apiece. Grand Junction first baseman Mason Minzey hit 3 for 4, with one of the sixth-inning homers.
TUES: RAPTORS 14, JACKALOPES 13
An eight-run sixth helped Ogden survive a final inning with Grand Junction’s tying run 90 feet away and the Raptors continued their win streak to open the series Tuesday.
Up 14-12, Ogden closer Nik Cardinal recorded two quick outs before surrendering a solo homer to GJ outfielder Alex Pimentel (making him 3 for 4 with four RBIs). Then things got interesting: Mason Minzey and Calyn Halvorsen each singled, with the play on the second hit sending runners to second and third.
But Cardinal got Kendall Foster to fly out to center field, ending the game.
Ogden designated hitter Sebastian Greico hit 4 for 6 with two doubles and four RBIs. He doubled in the sixth inning to stretch a Raptors lead to 13-6 and scored what was ultimately the winning run on an Elliott Good double in the eighth, which made it 14-10.
Outfielder Damian Stone led off the game with a solo home run for Ogden. That helped the Raptors never trail in the contest, though the Jackalopes tied the score at 1-1 and 6-6 before coming close to tying it again at 14-14.
Chris Sargent added to his RBI total with a bases-clearing double to boost the eight-run sixth inning.
