Houston Rockets guard Josh Okogie gestures after scoring during Game 5 of an NBA playoffs first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers on April 29, 2026, in Los Angeles.

The Utah Jazz continued to clarify the picture for the 2026-27 season Friday when the team agreed to terms with a veteran guard.

Josh Okogie will sign a two-year, $12 million deal to join the Jazz, ESPN and many others reported Friday night.

Okogie is a 6-foot-4 guard and an eight-year veteran and is expected to be a low-usage offensive player who can boost Utah’s perimeter defense. He’s a 35% 3-point shooter over the last four seasons and shot a career-best 38.5% from distance this past season in Houston.

The native of Nigeria attended Georgia Tech and was a first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He spent four seasons in Minnesota, two in Phoenix, split one between Phoenix and Charlotte, and started 32 of 78 games in Houston. Okogie carries career averages of 6.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Since drafting Kansas guard Darryn Peterson last month at No. 2 overall, the Jazz have traded center Walker Kessler to the Los Angeles Lakers for two first-round draft picks and two pick swaps, signed former Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, and now signed Okogie.

Utah’s drafting of Peterson is expected to open a playoff window and begin to end the team’s multi-year rebuild, given the late-season acquisition of Jaren Jackson Jr.

Wednesday, Tony Jones — former Jazz beat writer for The Athletic and The Salt Lake Tribune, and current 76ers and NBA writer at The Athletic — said on social media site X that the Jazz are “definitely not done” in trying to build around their current stars.

MAMMOTH SIGN DEFENSEMAN

The Utah Mammoth continued the team’s effort to bring in experienced players with the signing of defenseman Andrew Peeke to a one-year contract.

Peeke, 28, had five goals and nine assists, with a team-high 135 blocked shots, with the Boston Bruins last season, his seventh NHL season.

“Andrew is a big, mobile defenseman that brings depth to our blue line,” said Bill Armstrong, general manager of the Utah Mammoth, in a news release. “He’s a smart player with offensive upside, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in a Mammoth uniform.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
