The final win Saturday pushed Weber State’s record to a stellar 20-6 mark.

The Wildcats take a week’s break away from games before hosting their home opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, against Utah Valley. WSU will play UVU, Utah and Utah State before beginning the Big Sky Conference schedule on April 1.

WSU 4, SDSU 3 (8)

After being run-ruled 9-1 against San Diego State on Thursday night, Weber State bounced back Friday afternoon to defeat the Aztecs in extra innings.

Arissa Henderson continued her excellent run of pitching, giving up eight hits and two earned runs across all eight innings in another complete-game win, moving her to 7-0 on the season. She struck out five and walked two.

Six WSU players each logged one hit. Katelyn Whiting scored on a throw in the first inning as Faith Hoe stole second. Makayla Donahoo similarly scored in the fifth inning on a throwing error as Mia Rushton stole second base. WSU went up 3-1 in the sixth when Henderson drive in Hoe on a fielder’s choice, but AJ Murphy hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.

Weber won it in the eighth when Henderson singled with two outs to score Whiting, who began on second as per softball’s international tiebreaker rule. In SDSU’s half of the eighth, the Aztecs bunted the runner to third for one out, and the runner was then thrown out at home on a grounder. Henderson then struck out Murphy to end the game.

WSU 8, CSUN 1

Weber State lost a quick, 1-0 decision to CSUN on Friday evening with Mariah Ramirez taking the hard-luck loss, giving up just one run on four hits in a complete game.

WSU bounced back Saturday morning with a convincing, 8-1 win over the Matadors. McKell McCuiston drove in four runs, with an RBI double in the first inning and a three-run homer in the second to put WSU in control.

Noelle Foster singled in two runs in the fourth, and Chloe Camarero scored after stealing third and then taking home on a throwing error.

Henderson gave up one run on three hits in the first two innings, and Ramirez shut down CSUN over the final five innings to pick up the win, giving up three hits, striking out four and walking zero.

WSU 3, USD 1

Weber State concluded the weekend with a win over tournament hosts San Diego on Saturday afternoon. Mandy Sink threw all seven innings for the win, giving up one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Designated player Mika Chong hit 3 for 3. Daisy Taloa drove in Faith Hoe on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning for the game’s first run. Abigail Sagert singled in Hoe in the sixth, then Chong scored on a fielding error.
