Weber State Hall of Fame runner, Olympian, Morgan native and previous assistant coach Lindsey Anderson is returning to her alma mater to join the track and cross country coaching staffs, the school announced Wednesday.

Anderson has been hired as an assistant coach for men’s and women’s track and cross country under head coaches Corbin Talley and Paul Pilkington.

“I am so excited for the opportunity to return to Weber State,” Anderson said in a news release from WSU. “Weber has always been a special place for me and I am thrilled to be returning to where my story began.”

Anderson spent the 2022-23 school year at the University of Missouri where she was the head cross country coach and an assistant track coach for distance runners.

Prior to that, Anderson was head men’s and women’s cross country coach at the College of Southern Idaho, relaunching that program and coaching there for five years, which included leading the women’s cross country team to the 2021 junior college national championship.

She was a two-year assistant at Cal State Bakersfield after working as a Weber State assistant coach from 2007-14.

As a runner, Anderson became the first Weber State athlete to compete in the Summer Olympics by qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Games in the steeplechase. She finished second overall at the U.S. Olympic Trials that year, posting a personal-best time of 9:30.75.

She was a two-time All-American athlete at Weber State. As a senior in 2007, she became the collegiate steeplechase record holder and became the first athlete in Big Sky history to win the conference title in the steeplechase, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters in the same championship meet.

“We are thrilled to have Lindsey returning home to coach at Weber State,” said WSU women’s track and field and cross country head coach Paul Pilkington, who coached Anderson at WSU. “She was a phenomenal athlete and has also proven herself as one of the best young distance coaches in the country. To leave a Power 5 program to return to Weber State is fantastic for us and we are really excited to have her back.”

WOMEN’S HOOPS HIRES FINAL ASSISTANT

Jenteal Jackson has finalized her first staff as Weber State’s women’s basketball head coach.

Jackson has hired Emily Codding as the third assistant, she confirmed to the Standard-Examiner.

Codding is a California native who played college basketball at Saint Mary’s from 2017-2021 and at Oregon State in the 2021-22 season. She coached the 2022-23 season at Santa Rosa Junior College and was involved in the club basketball scene in California.

Jackson’s first-year staff is comprised of Hillary Carlson, most recently at Air Force, Cydney McHenry, who coached at Westminster with Jackson, and Codding. Former Davis High, SLCC and Westminster player Alli Blake will be a graduate assistant coach.

In related news, the University of Missouri-Kansas City announced the hiring of former WSU head coach Velaida Harris as an associate head coach. UMKC is slated to play at Weber State this season as part of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge.
