New Orleans receiver Rashid Shaheed (22) finds running room during a game against Tampa Bay on Dec. 31, 2023, in Tampa, Fla.Shaheed signs extension with Saints
Former Weber State great Rashid Shaheed signed a contract extension to remain with the New Orleans Saints over the weekend, according to multiple reports from media across the country.
The Saints confirmed the extension with social media posts Sunday, absent the details. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Shaheed’s extension is for one year and $5.2 million.
That should keep Shaheed in New Orleans for two more seasons. USA Today and NFL Trade Rumors each report the new deal is for the 2025 season after his rookie contract concludes.
The first player to ever be a four-time All-American at Weber State was an All-Pro selection last season for the Saints. In 15 games, he caught 46 passes for 719 yards and five touchdowns. He added 13.6 yards per punt return and one touchdown, and 21.3 yards per kickoff return.
Shaheed is still tied for the most kickoff returns in Division I football history with seven (FBS or FCS). He finished his college career ranked third in WSU history in all-purpose yards with 5,478, and seventh in career receiving yards with 2,164.
After recovering from a knee injury suffered in his final college game and going undrafted to the Saints, Shaheed burst onto the scene in 2022. His first two touches in NFL games were a 44-yard rushing touchdown and a 53-yard receiving touchdown.
