Weber State men’s basketball will host Oral Roberts and travel to St. Thomas in the challenge. WSU women will host North Dakota State and travel to South Dakota State.
This year’s games are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 6.
The challenge awards 1.5 points for every road win and one point for home wins. The Summit League won the first year (January 2024) on a point differential tiebreaker and the second year (Dec. 2024) by a score of 24.5 to 17.
The Weber State men are 2-2 all-time in challenge games, defeating Oral Roberts and South Dakota State in the first year and losing to North Dakota and North Dakota State in the second year.
WSU is 6-2 all-time against Oral Roberts, including four straight wins since 2013. The Golden Eagles have traditionally been good to great since joining Division I in 1997 but had the program’s worst campaign last season, going 7-23 overall and 3-13 in the Summit League.
St. Thomas is a first-time meeting for the Wildcats. The Tommies (St. Paul, Minnesota) will be in their fifth year of Division I competition after transitioning from Division III in 2021. St. Thomas went 24-10 last season and finished with the Summit League’s best KenPom rating at 130.
Oral Roberts and Utah Tech are known home games for the WSU men, while the Wildcats have road games set with Utah, Utah Valley, UC Irvine and St. Thomas.
The Weber State women are 0-2 in Big Sky-Summit games, losing at home to Kansas City in the first year and losing at North Dakota last season. The WSU women’s team has never played either of this season’s opponents. SDSU was 30-4 last season and NDSU finished third in the Summit League.
This year, Sacramento State — perhaps preparing for its desired near future outside the Big Sky — is not participating in the challenge, so all other teams in both leagues will get two games.
