Weber State women’s volleyball and women’s soccer teams are out to hot starts in the 2025 season, and both have players who have pulled in weekly Big Sky honors already.

Junior opposite hitter Rose Moore was named the Big Sky Conference’s offensive volleyball player of the week after helping the Wildcats to a 3-0 mark in the Wildcat Invitational. Weber State only played one set over the minimum to take care of Nevada, UC Irvine and Southern Utah in the event held Aug. 29-30.

Moore totaled 38 kills over 10 sets in the three matches; she’s second in the Big Sky in kills per set. Her six service aces have her atop the Big Sky with 0.60 per set (with teammate Jayda Tupea in second at 0.50).

Moore added eight blocks and 26 digs to her weekend as well, helping her earn tournament MVP.

The Wildcats next head to St. George to play Utah Tech, Charleston Southern and UC Riverside on Thursday through Saturday.

For the soccer team, senior midfielder Grace Kirby (Fremont High alum) pulled in Big Sky offensive player of the week honors one week ago for scoring one goal each in wins over Cal State Bakersfield and North Dakota State.

WSU soccer next faces Boise State (2-1-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Broncos have a loss to Bakersfield, a win over Montana, and draws against Idaho State and Southern Utah.

Out on more open grass fields, WSU junior runner Jake Peterson (Ogden High) won this week’s Big Sky men’s cross country athlete of the week for his performance at the Utah State Alumni Challenge on Aug. 30.

Peterson was the top-finishing collegian in a field that included Weber State, Utah State, Idaho State and a team of USU Alumni. He finished the 7K course in 20:43, five seconds behind Camren Todd, a USU and Davis High alum.

Weber State won the team points race on both the men’s and women’s sides, but the women’s 5K was also won individually by a USU alum: former Layton High runner Emma Thornley (17:47). Frances Hudson was WSU’s top women’s finisher at 18:11.

Starting at $4.32/week.
