Weber State volleyball takes two wins in trip to Utah Tech

WSU, now 5-1, is back in action Sept. 12-13 for three matches at SEMO (Southeast Missour State), facing Murray State (2-4), SEMO (3-3) and Iowa (6-0).

Weber State started its weekend in St. George by getting flattened by the red-hot host Trailblazers 25-16, 25-20, 25-15. Utah Tech is 5-1; its only loss is to Iowa, a five-set defeat that so far are the only sets Iowa has lost this season.
Ashley Gneiting led WSU with 10 kills. Taylor Snow tallied 12 kills and 2 1/2 blocks to lead UTU, which outdid WSU 7-2 in aces and 8-2 in blocks.
FRI: WSU 3, CSU 2
Weber State led 2-1 but had to rally in the fifth set to rebound with a win over Charleston Southern by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 25-27, 15-12.
The Buccaneers (3-3) led 8-5 in the fifth on an Emma Bednarek ace. But two Jayda Tupea kills and a Maggie Larsen ace helped Weber go up 9-8 and outscore CSU 10-4 over the final 14 points, with Rose Moore providing the kill on match point.
Kaylie Ray had 18 kills and Moore 15 for WSU. Stacia Barker totaled four blocks while Morgan Pratt racked up 52 digs and 14 assists.
SAT: WSU 3, UCR 1
The Wildcats closed the week with a 25-8, 25-20, 20-25, 25-10 defeat of UC Riverside (2-4).
WSU served eight aces, with Ashley Gneiting providing three. She also led with 11 kills. Rose Moore had 10 kills and 2 1/2 blocks.
