Weber State soccer falls 2-1 at Utah State
After surviving Utah State control in the first half that included a 13-1 shot tally, Weber State women’s soccer got more chances in the second half.
Problem was, Utah State converted the two it got.
The Aggies scored a pair of second-half goals 2 minutes apart and went on to defeat Weber State 2-1 on Thursday night in Logan.
Kaylie Chambers punched in a short-range goal, assisted by Tess Werts, in the 65th minute.
In the 67th minute, Utah State (2-2-2) played forward an attempted WSU clear near midfield and Hadli Barrera flicked a perfect touch into the air toward the box. By inches, Mia Mullenmeister won the race to the ball against charging Weber keeper Lauren Butorac, dribbling a roller past the freshman and into the net.
Weber State (4-3) got on the board in the 88th minute when a Lily Blum boot forward resulted in a footrace. Forward Sayler Schlosser won that race and, stumbling through contact, pushed a similar dribbler to USU’s net as Aggies keeper Taylor Rath missed her sliding challenge at the top of the box.
WSU outshot USU 4-2 in shots on goal in the second half but the Aggies made both count.
Weber State returns for its first home game in three weeks, and final nonconference home match, hosting Kyle Christensen’s former squad in Utah Valley (3-2-1). That’s scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Wildcat Soccer Field.
