A big recruiting weekend netted four more commitments for Weber State men’s basketball, adding size and Utah connections to the new group.

Georgia Tech transfer Dyllan Thompson, Seattle transfer Brock Felder and Utah transfer Alvin Jackson III all announced their pledges Monday via social media. Then, former four-star prospect and BYU commit Chamberlain Burgess announced his commitment mid-day Tuesday.

That takes the count of incoming transfers to nine for new head coach Kaleb Canales. It also leaves the Wildcats needing about 2-4 more players for the 2026-27 season as Canales overhauls the roster. Now, 10 players with eligibility remaining have entered the transfer portal to leave Weber State as freshman center Bourgeois Tshilobo announced his transfer Tuesday morning.

Tuesday was the final day for players to enter their names into the transfer portal. Players simply must notify their school’s compliance officer by the deadline to be eligible to play next season.

Burgess is a 6-foot-9 forward who prepped at Orem High and signed with BYU during his senior year of high school. He served a short church mission and returned early, and spent the 2025-26 season at Snow College but did not play after his mission return.

Orem's Chamberlain Burgess (24) goes up for a shot against Brighton in a 5A boys basketball quarterfinal on Feb. 25, 2025, at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.

Burgess averaged 13.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game as a senior at Orem. Rated a four-star prospect and the No. 5 player in Utah in the 2025 class, Burgess originally chose BYU over Illinois while also holding offers from Hawaii and Utah Valley.

Thompson is a 6-foot-7 wing/forward from Texas who spent two seasons at Georgia Tech without seeing the floor — one due to redshirt, then one due to injury. He’s the son of women’s basketball great Tina Thompson, a close friend of Damian Lillard’s who is a nine-time WNBA All-Star, four-time WNBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist.

In his senior year of high school, Thompson averaged 18 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He has four years of eligibility remaining.

Utah native Brock Felder also added his name to the mix and gives WSU the only upperclassmen of the current incoming class. Felder is a 6-foot-8 senior forward from Parowan transferring in from Seattle.

Felder started all 31 games for Southern Utah as a sophomore, averaging 5.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and a WAC-leading 2.1 blocks per game. He transferred to Seattle but took a back seat to senior and Gonzaga transfer Jun Seok Yeo, averaging 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per game. He’s a career 64.2% shooter.

Jackson is familiar to Utah, though he prepped mostly in Maryland, and is likely looking for a breakthrough season in his college career. He played one season at Lone Peak where his older brother and former NBA guard Frank Jackson also played.

A 6-foot-5 guard, Jackson has three seasons of eligibility remaining. After returning from a mission to Las Vegas, Jackson played a reserve role at Salt Lake Community College, averaging 6.4 points per game, before redshirting at the University of Utah.

The additions of Burgess, Felder and Thompson sure up some of WSU’s needs in the frontcourt. With Tshilobo’s departure, the Wildcats likely aim for another big man and an additional wing player among their final additions.

WSU is currently set to return only freshman guard ArDarius Grayson and sophomore center Declan Cutler from last season after the dismissal of four-year coach Eric Duft.

The roster is young but filled with many players WSU would’ve liked to have had, or did recruit, out of high school, including Burgess, Aaron Powell from Rice, Sir Marius Jones from New Mexico and Mason Abittan from UNLV.

By class, WSU’s tentative roster for next season sits like the following:

Senior: Brock Felder (Seattle)

Junior: Declan Cutler (returning)

Sophomores: ArDarius Grayson (returning), Aaron Powell (Rice), Alvin Jackson III (Utah), Dylan Warlick (Saint Louis), Augustine Ekwe (New Mexico State)

Freshmen: Sir Marius Jones (New Mexico), Mason Abittan (UNLV), Dyllan Thompson (Georgia Tech), Chamberlain Burgess (Snow/BYU)

Starting at $4.32/week.
