Among 11 regular-season nonconference games, first-year head coach Kaleb Canales will host five in the Dee Events Center, with four of those opponents being from Division I: Washington State, Utah Valley, Tarleton State and Cal State Northridge.

Additionally, the Wildcats will host three exhibition home games in October against Division II opponents from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Other than a slate of 18 home games (15 regular-season, three exhibition), the biggest note for fans is a change to tipoff times. Many nonconference games are afternoon or evening contests, stretching all the way to a 2 p.m. Thursday home conference game on New Year’s Eve.

Once Weber’s Big Sky home schedule arrives in January, WSU will play at 6 p.m. for Monday or Thursday home games, and typically at 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Wildcats play all other six Division I opponents from Utah this season — plus DII Westminster, meaning WSU plays every four-year basketball college in the state.

That means a reasonably good set of travel circumstances for WSU this season, including an 11-game stretch from Nov. 7 to Dec. 15 when the Wildcats leave the state of Utah just once. (That includes the early conference series from Dec. 3 and 5 at Utah Tech and Southern Utah.)

WSU is advertising the return of the Junction City Jam; WSU hosts Tarleton on Tuesday, Nov. 24, and CSUN on Wednesday, Nov. 25. It’s not a true multi-team event, however, as Tarleton and CSUN are not slated to play each other; instead, WSU is using the games as the Ogden portion of home-and-home series to be completed next season.

In a change from previous Standard-Examiner reporting, a home game against non-DI opponent Lincoln (California) was moved from Nov. 20 to Nov. 14.

Weber State concludes the nonconference schedule by visiting former Wildcat sharpshooter Viljami Vartiainen at UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 18. Conference play resumes Dec. 31 with Northern Arizona visting Ogden, and the Wildcats get full swing into the Big Sky the following week when Montana and Montana State visit the Dee Events Center on Jan. 7 and 9.
