And, a player with a familiar name was on campus for a men’s basketball visit.

SPIKIN’ CATS ROLL UVU

Weber State volleyball concluded its nonconference schedule Saturday with a convincing win at Utah Valley (17-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22), finishing the slate with a record of 7-3.

The Wildcats hit .317 to UVU’s .190 to claim the match in four sets.

After a slow start, WSU found itself down 4-1 to begin the second set. But two Rose Moore kills got Weber going. After the Wildcats led 16-15, they finished the second set on a 9-2 run to pull away, and WSU didn’t look back after that.

The senior Moore led Weber with 20 kills, adding 11 digs. Freshman Lexie Carlson added 15 kills. Ziya Munyer totaled seven kills, six blocks and two aces.

Addison Eastwood passed 30 assists and Marly Pratt led with 14 digs.

Other than a five-set loss to Cal State Bakersfield (5-7), the Wildcats have losses to No. 22 BYU (8-1) and a four-set loss to Kansas State (8-0).

Idaho is 9-3, with WSU and Utah Tech both 7-3 entering conference play.

The Wildcats start Big Sky competition on the road, going to Eastern Washington on Thursday and Idaho on Saturday. WSU hosts a pair of home matches on Oct. 1 and 3 against Portland State and Northern Arizona.

SOCCER AT HOME FRIDAY

WSU women’s soccer took a 3-0 shutout Saturday night at Utah Valley, marking the squad’s third consecutive loss.

Utah Valley got two goals from BYU transfer Josie Clawsom. The Wolverines only held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal; Lauren Butorac made four saves for WSU.

The Wildcats (3-5-1) play one game this week to conclude nonconference action, hosting Colorado State (1-6-2) in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Wildcat Soccer Field. WSU opens Big Sky play on the road, so its first conference home games come on Oct. 8 against Utah Tech and Oct. 11 against Southern Utah.

ALDRIDGE JR. VISITS WEBER

While home football games usually bring in a gaggle of football recruits from around the area and beyond, Kaleb Canales had a notable recruit on campus for Weber State men’s basketball during the weekend.

Photos he posted to Instagram show LaMarcus Aldridge Jr., or LJ Aldridge, visited Ogden with his family. It appears the group, including his father, the former Portland and San Antonio veteran in the NBA, flew in on a private jet and spent the weekend at WSU, including at the home football game.

LJ Aldridge is a 6-foot-6 player and a class of 2028 prospect. WSU, who has 14 of 15 scholarships filled for this season and zero fifth-year players, currently has no known commitments in future classes — except for 2026 shooting guard Lincoln Holcombe, the Timpview High alum who is currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Florida.
