Marlene’s early teaching career included a year in both Washington, DC, and NYC, then many years teaching in State College, Pennsylvania, before relocating to Ogden, Utah, where she would continue to enjoy, and ultimately retire from, her teaching career. Friendships with fellow teachers lasted throughout her life, being some of her most treasured friendships.

When not inspiring young minds, she enjoyed outdoor activities as well as spending time with family. Marlene was an ardent supporter of the arts, namely the Utah Symphony and the Ogden Symphony and Ballet Association. The friendships made through these organizations also lasted throughout her life. Marlene’s support to these organizations resulted in her being recognized with the Ogden City Mayor’s Awards in the Arts for her ongoing dedication to the Arts in Utah. Additionally, she supported the public library system and was instrumental in the opening of one of the branches in Weber County.

Marlene is survived by her sister Kathy (Bob) Shaw (Uintah, UT), and Lynn Barnett (Bountiful, UT), along with her three children, Dave (Jennifer) Case (Mechanicsburg, PA), John Case (Ogden, UT), Kathleen Novosel (Leesburg, VA), as well as many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her brother Galen Barnett. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
