OGDEN — A late-spring tradition is just around the corner.

In a press release Wednesday, Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music, or OFOAM, announced the 18th Ogden Music Festival, set for May 29-31 at Fort Buenaventura Park.

OFOAM co-director Reba Nissen told the Standard-Examiner on Wednesday that excitement is building around everything from the setting to the festival activities.

“It’s going to be amazing,” she said. “It is one mile away from downtown Ogden, but you are in this oasis of cottonwood trees with the Weber River and lots of great shade and camping. … Kids 16 and under get in free to everything we do because we really want to inspire kids with acoustic music and we have an ‘instrument petting zoo’ of over 100 instruments for kids to pick up and play. And the lineup is incredible.”

According to the press release, this year’s main stage lineup includes:

  • Yonder Mountain String Band
  • Sierra Hull
  • Peter Rowan with Sam Grisman Project
  • North Mississippi Allstars
  • Michael Cleveland & Jason Carter
  • Steve Poltz
  • Miko Marks
  • Bronwyn Keith-Hynes
  • Ken Pomeroy
  • Chicken Wire Empire
  • The Cody Sisters
  • Blood on the Tracks: A Utah Tribute to Dylan
  • Mariachi Guzmán
  • Melissa Chilinski & Hearfolk
  • The Last Wild Buffalo

Nissen said there will also be a change to the popular “Tweeners” Stage, which showcases local emerging talent between main stage sets.

“We’re partnering with the Utah Arts Festival to really elevate our Tweeners,” she said. “We’re going to have a voting system where people can vote for their favorite Tweeners. That will get the top two Tweeners a spot at the Utah Arts Festival. It’s kind of a fun competition, but it also really elevates local talent.”

She added that Ogden Adaptive Sports and the GOAL Foundation will be hosting adaptive yoga Saturday and Sunday mornings of the festival as well.

Nissen added there will be several activities for everyone, both young and old.

“People can expect a very friendly community environment where kids and families and people of all ages are there and there’s something for everyone,” she said. “We have a kid’s zone with lots of activities and we have a workshop stage where our main stage artists give workshops, and those are really kind of a hidden gem at the festival. Also, our ‘Jam Camp’ — it’s an all-ages jam camp that has some supervision for safety — and our main stage artists stop by for about 30 minutes at the jam camp and everyone can bring their instrument and jam with our main stage artists.”

She said that festival organizers are expecting 3,000-3,500 attendees this year.
