Northern Utah Living: 3 events to check out this week (Aug. 22-30)

The full Northern Utah calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:

1. Box Elder County Fair

Box Elder County Fairgrounds, Aug. 28-29, noon to 10 p.m.

It’s time for another fun county fair, this time up in Box Elder County. The fair website says: “Whether you’re a longtime fairgoer or experiencing the Box Elder County Fair for the first time, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Guests can look forward to live entertainment at the Bandstand, four nights of the Golden Spike PRCA Rodeo, delicious fair food and sweet treats, and the Junior Livestock of Box Elder County Exhibits & Auction. The Fair also showcases 4-H exhibits, Home Arts displays, and local crops that highlight the hard work and talent of our community. Don’t miss the Wednesday parade, a favorite tradition filled with local pride and friendly faces.”

The Ice Sheet, home of the Ogden Mustangs, is seen on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Weber State University. Weber County commissioners approved use of $150,000 to study improvements to the facility as part of a possible Utah bid for the Winter Olympics.

2. The Utah Brain Game

Weber County Ice Sheet, Ogden, Aug. 29, noon-9 p.m.

Escape the late summer head and head to the Weber County Ice Sheet to honor a fallen athlete. The event page says: “Join us for a day of hockey, community, and purpose as we honor the memory of Nils Erik Söderlund while raising awareness and support for brain injury, concussion, and CTE research. The Utah Brain Game brings together players, families, fans, and supporters from across the United States and Sweden for a special event celebrating the game Nils loved while supporting an important cause. This unique event will feature former junior, college, and professional teammates of Nils Erik Söderlund from both the United States and Sweden. These players are coming together to celebrate his life, share memories, and support the mission of increasing awareness and funding for brain injury and CTE research.”

3. We The People Multicultural Arts Festival, (davisarts.org)

Celebrate a variety of cultures with neighbors and friends throughout Davis County at Layton Commons Park. The event website says: “Join us for the inaugural We the People Multicultural Arts Festival on August 29, 2026, from noon to 8 p.m. in Layton Commons Park. The free festival celebrates the many cultures, traditions, and stories that enrich Davis County through music, dance, theater, visual arts, food, and community engagement. The day-long event will feature live performances by local artists on the Kenley Amphitheater stage, interactive workshops led by performers and local teaching artists, cultural and visual art demonstrations, artisan and food vendors, family-friendly activities, and more.”
