North Ogden City announced that it is proposing a property tax revenue increase.

“The NORTH OGDEN CITY tax on a $535,000 (2025 average value) residence would increase from $383.70 to $402.83, which is $19.13 per year,” the city posted in a document shared Wednesday on Facebook.

“The NORTH OGDEN CITY tax on a $535,000 business would increase from $697.64 to $732.42, which is $34.78 per year.

“If the proposed budget is approved, NORTHOGDEN CITY would receive an additional $149,854 in property tax revenue per year as a result of the tax increase.

“If the proposed budget is approved, NORTHOGDEN CITY would increase its property tax budgeted revenue by 5% above last year’s property tax budgeted revenue excluding eligible new growth.

“The NORTH OGDEN CITY invites all concerned citizens to a public hearing for the purpose of hearing comments regarding the proposed tax increase and to explain the reasons for the proposed tax increase. You have the option to attend or participate in the public hearing in person or virtually.”

The public hearing is scheduled for May 5 at 6 p.m. at the North Ogden Public Safety Building – Court/Council Chambers, 515 E. 2600 N.

Responding to the proposed increase on Facebook, commenters highlighted the city’s transportation fee.

“Will this replace the transportation fee on our monthly utility bill or is this in addition to?” wrote Wayne Russell. “And why is 2600 North still covered with potholes?”

Wrote Meg Sanders:

“Is this because your massive tax hike last year was rejected by the Utah State Tax Commission? What about the $15/month transportation fee?”

Wrote Clint Kelfer:

“I vote no!

“You already are getting an extra $15/month from us, and you should get that kind of extra revenue from all the new homes that are being built.. oh and you’re already getting tons of extra revenue from the inflated home values over the past 5-6years”

Instructions for virtual participation in the public hearing, the notice said, will be available no later than 24 hours before the hearing is scheduled to start at www.northogdencity.gov/taxes. The virtual meeting link listed is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83411129719.

Written comments can be sent to recorder@northogdencity.gov

The notice goes on to say that for more information regarding the tax increase, citizens can contact North Ogden City at 801-782-7211 or visit Northogdencity.gov.
