SALT LAKE CITY — Voters will be able to size up the three GOP hopefuls for the 1st District U.S. House seat side by side.

All three, incumbent Blake Moore, Andrew Badger and Tina Cannon, say they will take part in the Utah Debate Commission debate next week.

“(Moore) looks forward to communicating why his vision for Utah is the best path forward,” the incumbent’s campaign said in a statement.

Chloe Morroni said Cannon is willing to take part in any sort of meeting with the two other Republican candidates. “She will participate in any and all debates going forward,” Morroni said.

The Utah Debate Commission debate between the 1st District hopefuls is set for June 2 at 2 p.m. and will be held at the studios of KSL in Salt Lake City. Thomas Wright, Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2020 and owner of a realty firm in Utah, will serve as moderator.

Additional details on the debate plans haven’t yet been released.

Moore, from Salt Lake City, is seeking his second term. Badger, from Summit Park, is running for his first elective post and Cannon, from Morgan, is a former Morgan County Council member. They face off in the June 28 primary with the winner going against Democrat Rick Jones of West Haven, the sole Democratic hopeful.

Those with questions for the candidates may submit them to the Utah Debate Commission for consideration at bit.ly/38J2UH2.

The Utah Republican Party issued a statement on May 10 saying the party should co-host debates among the varied Republican contenders for office leading up to the primary, prompting debate about the format of the meetings.

“It simply doesn’t make sense for the debate commission to decide what issues will be discussed and who will ask the questions. This is a Republican primary to be voted in by registered Republican voters,” Carson Jorgensen, the party chairman, said in a statement. The party statement went on, encouraging GOP candidates to withhold decisions on participation in Utah Debate Commission debates until party leaders were able to sort out the issues with debate commission officials.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the Utah Republican Party will host a debate among the three GOP hopefuls for the U.S. Senate seat coming open on June 1. They are Mike Lee, the incumbent, Ally Isom and Becky Edwards. The party didn’t respond to queries seeking comment on the debate plans.

Here’s the schedule for the other planned Utah Debate Commission debates among the varied GOP hopefuls for federal office, all to be held at KSL studios:

  • The 4th District U.S. House debate is set for June 1 at 1 p.m.
  • The 3rd District U.S. House debate is set for June 1 at 6 p.m.
  • The 2nd District U.S. House debate is set for June 2 at 10 a.m.
  • The U.S. Senate debate is set for June 2 at 6 p.m.
