OGDEN — More than 180 high schoolers graduated from this year’s installment of Utah Boys State and two will be taking part in Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. — Colby Stone of Washington Terrace and Carson Cooper of St. George.

The program, sponsored by the American Legion, was held last week on the Ogden campus of Weber State University and 186 students graduated from it on June 16.

“Scholarships offered through this program from Weber State University, Samsung Corporation and the American Legion Utah Boys State Foundation were over $1.9 million,” reads a press release. Most scholarship funding is for study at Weber State.

The aim of the program is to educate students about civics, leadership and government, and the participants created a government, among other things, and elected leaders among themselves.

Harrison Park was tabbed as governor and Kaleb Stephens was tabbed as lieutenant governor. Both are from Layton and both are students at the Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering and Science, or NUAMES, in Davis County. Two senators were also picked: Cooper of Desert Hills High School and Stone, a student at NUAMES in Ogden.

The two senators will travel to Boys Nation in Washington, D.C., in July.
