Ogden Contemporary Arts will hold its first-ever block party Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, from noon to 6 p.m.

OGDEN — Ogden Contemporary Arts is looking to get the community involved and give the public a glimpse of what the organization does for the region.

On Saturday, OCA is set to host its inaugural block party from noon to 6 p.m. on 25th Street east of Washington Boulevard between The Monarch and the Dumke Arts Plaza.

OCA Executive Director Venessa Castagnoli told the Standard-Examiner the block party will be a way of exhibiting the nonprofit’s work to the public.

“It’s basically going to be a highlight of everything we do,” she said. “We’re going to have a ton of free art activities for people of all ages. Basically, it’s looking at our Artist Factory youth education program and doing a one-day workshop at each of our booths.”

There will also be live music, food and other art activities.

Castagnoli said this is the first time the group has done an event like this.

“The most important thing is to provide free art education to our entire community rather than just our nonprofit partners that we work with, like Youth Impact, Boys & Girls Club and the YCC (Family Crisis Center) — we do a lot of their art programming for them through our Artist Factory education program,” she said. “(The block party) was one way to expand that to the entire community. While it’s just for one day, it is quality art education for everyone.”

All are welcome to attend, she added.

“It’s a free activity for our community, but we’re also giving our community an opportunity to see what we offer for our city and Northern Utah in general,” Castagnoli said. “There will also be some fundraising components to it because we are a nonprofit and we’re looking at doing this as an annual event rather than a gala that’s super exclusive. We’re a community organization and we want to show what we’re doing.”
