Wildfire breaks out near North Ogden; some evacuations ordered

A plume of smoke from a brush fire on the mountainside above North Ogden drifts into the sky Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025.NORTH OGDEN — A large wildfire has broken out on the northeast side of North Ogden.
According to a 3 p.m. post on X by Utah Fire Info, the fire — dubbed at that time #NorthOgdenFire — was around 5 acres, 0% contained and threatening around 15-20 structures. The post noted that the fire had been sparked by a vehicle fire, was burning uphill and that multiple firefighting units and aircraft had been dispatched. The fire would later be called the #WillardPeakFire, though Willard Peak is much further north.
A post on North Ogden City’s Facebook page at 4:12 p.m. stated that evacuations were ordered east of North 1050 East and north of East 3300 North and that residents in this area would be receiving reverse 911 texts or phone calls informing them of the evacuation order. Another post at 6 p.m. stated that residents of the Mason Cove area were being evacuated and city personnel were knocking on doors to notify them.
Rocky Mountain Power reported more than 10,000 customers in the area without power as of 5 p.m.
Just before 5 p.m., the Utah Fire Info page reported a size of 50-75 acres for the fire.
Heavy smoke could be observed on the mountainside near the city limits from the Standard-Examiner’s headquarters.
