Gary C. New is a Forward candidate for Weber County Commission Seat A. Below are his responses to a six-question survey sent to him by the Standard-Examiner. The Standard-Examiner made an attempt to contact each candidate involved in a competitive race in Weber and Davis counties.

1. Why is the position you are running for important?

Good, Better, Best… The Office of Weber County Commissioner effects Weber County Neighbors’ Wallets through Taxation. This Taxation supports the County’s growing Public Health & Safety, Education, Infrastructure, and Transportation needs. It is the Duty of a Weber County Commissioner to make Executive Decisions and enact Legislation that effects the Direction & Future of Weber County. Gary C. New is the Best County Commissioner Candidate for a New Voice, for New Direction, and a New Future for Weber County.

2. What unique qualities, attributes, skills, and experiences do you possess that make you the best candidate in this race?

Gary C. New is NOT a Developer, Realtor, or in Construction and does not have those potential Conflicts of Interest that other Public Officials might face. What Gary C. New DOES HAVE is a proven 30-Year Professional, Academic, and Community track record working with some of the Best & Brightest in Tech (Fortune 500 & Pentagon), to a Higher Education (Bachelors Degree in Decision Science & Management Information Systems), and Community Service (Nonprofit Volunteer). Gary C. New continues to demonstrate that he is the Intelligent Choice to Quickly and Proficiently Excel as Weber County Commissioner.

3. Please explain your priorities if elected, as well as why you believe you are uniquely capable of achieving those priorities.

Affordability (Affordable Housing, Affordable Healthcare, Affordable Living)… Gary C. New understands the difficulties that many Weber County Neighbors face with Affordable Housing, Affordable Healthcare, and Affordable Living with Housing Shortages & High Mortgage/Rental Rates, Increasing Healthcare & Prescription Costs, and Rising Fuel & Grocery Prices. Gary C. New will improve Affordability by creating, revising, and streamlining associated County Legislation & Regulations, ensuring All Taxation has a Prescribed & Necessary Purpose, and reducing Year-Over-Year Property Tax Rates, by Identifying and Eliminating County Budgetary Inefficiencies. If Weber County Neighbors have to Budget Wisely… Weber County Officials must Budget Wisely, too!

4. Please describe how you view the importance of compromise in politics and provide an example from your own experiences that highlights your perspective.

Gary C. New is running for Weber County Commissioner to help bring Civility & Respect back to Politics. It is only through attempting to understand the many sides of an issue, discuss various data driven solutions, and often come to a compromise that we are able to establish Civility & Respect for one another, the Process, and improve the lives of All Weber County Neighbors. In the 2026 League of Women Voters – Primary Election Forum, Gary C. New reached across the isle to demonstrate one of his leadership styles of Ballroom Dance with his then GOP Opponent Katrina Gibson. Together, they showed how Weber County can be like a Beautiful Dance… When all the many moving parts of the County are working in harmony, it can produce Beautiful Results that benefit All Weber County Neighbors.

5. How will you balance the views of the vocal public, your political party, and your own understanding and knowledge as an elected representative?

Gary C. New‘s unique position as a Conservative Independent, with the New Party (Forward Party), allows him the political autonomy of being a True Voice of the People, answering Only to the People, and not beholden to a Political Party. Moreover… We live in a Technological Information Age that holds the promise of providing True Democratic Representation by allowing All Voices to be heard (not just the Vocal). With Gary C. New‘s technology experience, he will institute methods of Public Comment that will allow All Voices to participate and the Collective Majority to see Legislation pass that improves the lives of All Weber County Neighbors.
