Clemens has the right skills, demeanor to replace Bishop in Congress
I’d like to say a few words in support of Dr. Peter Clemens, who is running against Rob Bishop for the U.S. House in the 1st District. As one of his patients for the past several years, I’ve had an opportunity to judge his professionalism and demeanor. During my office visits with him, there was no time limit. He always made sure my medical concerns were heard completely and explained the implications and treatment options for my problems thoroughly and in terms that were easy to understand. Dr. Clemens is also open to second opinions, even if they were not completely consistent with his recommended course of action. His ability to listen to problems, articulate solutions, and compromise when needed is a great skill set for a member of Congress.
I attended one of his listening tours to hear more about his positions. His campaign is funded largely by a large number of individual donations, as opposed to the much smaller number of special interest donations received by his opponent. In fact, KUER reports that Rep. Rob Bishop receives more donations from out-of-state sources than any other congressman. In addition, according to the latest Federal Election Commission (FEC) data, about two-thirds of Bishop’s donations came from PACs. That speaks volumes. Exactly who is Bishop representing?
On the other hand, 95 percent of Clemens’ donations have come from individual donors within Utah.
During the two hours of the listening tour, Clemens articulately responded to questions on a wide range of issues. I’d encourage everyone to visit his website to see where he stands. He is not a demagogue and realizes that progress requires compromise. He does not make promises that he knows might be impossible to achieve, but he does promise to work hard and represent the people of the 1st District to the best of his ability.
If we want change in this country, we need to start by replacing the people in Congress who have been so ineffective over the past few years. Please vote for Peter Clemens.
