Letter: You can trust that elections in the US are secure

Mar 18, 2024

As regards Bill Heersink’s letter on March 14 in which he says he is unsure how to know if the 2020 election was the victim of fraud and how can he trust elections with this doubt?

Mr. Heersink, there are a number of ways you can feel secure about the election. Claims of fraud in 2020 have all, and I do mean all, been disproven, often by Republican investigators or people appointed by President Trump:

Trump’s own Attorney General, Bill Barr, investigated the election and said there was no fraud.

Trump’s own Homeland Security elections inspector said 2020 was the fairest most secure election ever.

Ken Block, an independent analyst hired by the Trump campaign to investigate claims of fraud, said they were all — all — false. He has a book — “Disproven” — out you can read.

Trump’s campaign took his claims of fraud to federal and state court more than 60 times. Except for one case that switched fewer than 300 votes, all those claims failed. Many of the judges tossing the cases out were Trump appointees. This includes the US Supreme Court, which refused to even hear his case, saying it had no validity.

Many of Trump’s advisors, people he hired and paid, have sworn they told him he lost the election fairly. He continues to say he did not. Where is his proof? See the previous points.

Weber County Elections Clerk Ricky Hatch runs an election counting operation that has gained national praise. He would love to show you how your vote is safe. Why not pay him a visit? He’s very nice.

All this is a matter of public record, Mr. Heersink. If the people claiming fraud haven’t proven fraud by now, it is because there was none. It is that simple.

Go vote and be secure.
