LAYTON — A judge has set a jury trial for a Bluffdale man accused of automobile homicide in the deaths of two people in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 15 last year.

Myron M. Barlow has been held without bail in the Davis County Jail since his arrest after the June 29, 2021, crash on the southbound interstate in Kaysville. Charging documents alleged Barlow was drunk when his pickup crashed into the rear of a car in which Stephen Colter, 77, of Healdsburg, California, and Ariana Colter, 37, of North Salt Lake — father and sister of bestselling “Bridgerton” novelist Julia Quinn — were passengers.

At a hearing June 13, 2nd District Judge Ronald Russell scheduled Barlow for trial on Nov. 29 through Dec. 2. The 39-year-old is charged with two counts of third-degree felony automobile homicide and four other drunken-driving related charges.

According to charging documents, a catering truck lost a load of canvas bags and several cars slowed. The Colters were killed when Barlow’s truck hit their vehicle.

The Utah Highway Patrol said Barlow was given a breath alcohol test, which registered at 0.146%. The Utah limit is 0.05%.

UHP investigators screened with county prosecutors the possibility of charges against the catering company, but no charges were filed.
