Prep roundup: Fremont, Bear River baseball stay unbeaten in region play

PLAIN CITY — Bridger Clontz pitched six innings, struck out 15 batters and allowed one run as Fremont High baseball opened its rivalry series with a win 4-2 against Weber on Tuesday afternoon.

Calvin Morrow struck out three batters in the seventh to wrap things up for Fremont (13-1, 7-0 Region 1). Gavin Douglas hit 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Dominic Salerno hit 2 for 2 with a double for Weber (6-8, 2-5). Jake Lindsay doubled. Kody Baur pitched four innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits.

BEN LOMOND 24, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 1

LAYTON — Cam Dodge homered and drove in five runs as Ben Lomond beat Layton Christian in three innings. Slade Abbott struck out six in two no-hit innings pitched for Ben Lomond (3-16, 2-11 Region 13).

Abbott and Trenton Harris each hit a triple. Manuel Fraijo hit 2 for 2 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Makiah Muhammad had a double with three RBIs.

Milton Herring drove in LCA’s (0-14, 0-12) lone run.

CYPRUS 13, ROY 9

MAGNA — Seven Roy players had a base hit and four had a double, but Cyprus scored nine runs across the third and fourth innings to take control.

Tyler Clark, Matt Porm, Ethan Herrick and Gavin Barney doubled for Roy (6-8, 4-3 Region 2). Clark and Porm drove in two runs each.

WOODS CROSS 24, BONNEVILLE 4

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Woods Cross scored 13 runs in the first inning and nine more in the third in a five-inning win.

Jack Bell drove in three runs, while Dax Weierman, Taylor Ayala, Isaac Canelon and Cole Smith drove in two for Woods Cross (9-4, 4-0 Region 5). Weierman tripled and Micah Mortensen scored three runs. Blake Stanger pitched two shutout innings with six strikeouts. WX had 17 base hits and drew 14 walks.

Kole Minnoch hit 2 for 3 with a home run and a stolen base for Bonneville (3-8, 0-4). Landon Minnoch hit a double.

LAYTON 12, CLEARFIELD 8

CLEARFIELD — Layton scored seven runs to take an 11-4 lead then held off a rally in a region win at Clearfield.

Dax Mahoney batted 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Layton (7-10, 4-6 Region 1). Gunner Wolfe batted 3 for 5 and drove in two. Eli Anderson hit 2 for 2 with a double, three walks and two RBIs. Carsten McNeely drove in four on two singles and two walks.

Dawson Burton batted 3 for 5 with a solo home run for Clearfield (5-8, 2-5). Cayden Wilson hit 3 for 5 with a double. Devan Harmer and Jackson Yamashita each hit a double and a single and drove in one. Cambell Hardy added an RBI double and Cayden Sato drove in two.

BOUNTIFUL 9, NORTHRIDGE 6

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.

Cole McSwain tossed a complete game for Bountiful (10-4, 4-0 Region 5). Hank Tippetts drove in three runs, Dallin Maxwell drove in two and Carson Webster drove in two. Webster batted 2 for 4 and scored two runs. Truman Duryea scored three runs.

Jace Olsen homered for Northridge (5-7, 0-4), Kobe McRoberts pitched a complete game and tripled and Tyler Asbury hit 2 for 4 with a double.

VIEWMONT 9, BOX ELDER 4

BRIGHAM CITY — Luke Jacobs hit 2 for 5 with a home run to lead Viewmont past Box Elder.

Viewmont (8-3, 4-0 Region 5) scored five runs in the fifth inning. Rhett Peterson hit 2 for 5. Jaden Campbell pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Ryan Griffin hit two doubles for Box Elder (5-9, 0-4). Damon Rodriguez hit 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two walks, while Kade Hall hit 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

BEAR RIVER 10, GREEN CANYON 3

NORTH LOGAN — Bear River scored 10 runs on nine singles and three RBIs to win at Green Canyon.

Hunter Smoot batted 4 for 5 and scored three runs for Bear River (14-3, 7-0 Region 11). Alec Callister went 3 for 5 and scored three runs. Hunter Harrow and Garrison Marble each had one hit. Ashton Harrow earned the win, allowing eight hits with two strikeouts in six innings.

GRANTSVILLE 18, MORGAN 2

GRANTSVILLE — Morgan gave up 11 runs in the first inning in a five-inning loss at Grantsville.

Ashton Lindley and Gage Adams each batted 2 for 3 with a double for Morgan (9-9, 7-6 Region 13).

FREMONT 16, CLEARFIELD 3

PLAIN CITY — Fremont plated nine runners in the fourth inning in a five-inning win over Clearfield.

Lexi Weston batted 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and drove in five for Fremont (9-2, 6-1 Region 1). Keysha McKean batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Savannah Palmatier and Brinley Elsworth each had two hits. Josie Slater and Kendyl Skeen each hit a double while Reata O’Neal drove in three. Elsworth pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out seven.

Miranda Mansfield batted 2 for 3 for Clearfield (4-8, 2-5). Natalie Brierley drove in two.

BONNEVILLE 20, WOODS CROSS 4

WOODS CROSS — Bonneville scored 15 runs across the second and third innings in a five-inning win at Woods Cross.

Emmaline DeGroot batted 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Bonneville (15-3, 4-1 Region 5). Stocktyn Stevenson added three hits and two RBIs. Kelsie Heslop went 2 for 4 with two doubles and drove in two. Keli Scadden hit 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Baylee Andreasen and Sara Clausse each had two hits and two RBIs.

Kenna Cowley batted 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for Woods Cross (6-10, 0-5). Noa Latu added two hits and one RBI.

FARMINGTON 7, SYRACUSE 0

SYRACUSE — Farmington took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning then added three insurance runs in the sixth in a shutout at Syracuse.

Lexi Crowley batted 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored for Farmington (8-4, 6-1 Region 1). Lisa Rassmussen wnet 2 for 4 and drove in one. Hadley Eichmeier hit a two-run double and Nev Carrasquel drove in one. Delaney Baker pitched a complete-game two-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Abby Reed hit a triple for Syracuse (4-12, 0-7) and Erin Anderson hit a single.

LAYTON 10, DAVIS 0

LAYTON — Layton scored four runs in the fifth inning to trigger the run rule in a region win over Davis.

Jazmine Prathan batted 3 of 4 with a double and one RBI for Layton (7-4, 4-2 Region 1). Tasia Shibuya went 2 for 4 with a triple and drove in two. Joslyn Purcell hit an RBI double and Brenley Boydston drove in one. Purcell pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and striking out two.

Alix Thaxton batted 2 for 3 for Davis (7-9, 1-6).

BOX ELDER 21, VIEWMONT 11

BOUNTIFUL — Tegan Mecham hit 3 for 4 with seven RBIs and a home run to lead Box Elder past Viewmont in a slugfest.

Malena Benson hit 3 for 5 with four RBIs for Box Elder (11-6, 3-1 Region 5). Maygen-Raye Kaleikini hit 3 for 3 with three walks and four runs scored. Megan Rountree hit 3 for 4 with two stolen bases. Sydney Stokes hit 2 for 4 and scored four runs.

Molly Roberts hit 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases for Viewmont (10-6, 2-3). Sydni Steed hit 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Anna Moore hit 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Lily Wright hit 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

BOUNTIFUL 7, NORTHRIDGE 6

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful took a 4-0 lead after five innings, then held off a Northridge rally for a region win.

Eva Stoddard batted 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Bountiful (9-3-1, 4-0 Region 5). Athena Tongaonevai and Malissa Turpin each had two hits, with Turpin driving in two and Tongaonevai one. Eva Miller earned the win with two hits and seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Stoddard earned the save.

Kadence Chournos hit a triple and a home run for Northridge (7-6, 1-4), driving in four.

GRANTSVILLE 9, MORGAN 3 (10)

MORGAN — Morgan gave up eight runs in the 10th inning in a home loss to Grantsville. The teams were scoreless after seven innings and matched each other with one run in the eighth.

Kaiya Peterson drove in two runs for Morgan (15-7, 4-1 Region 13). The loss means Morgan and Grantsville are tied for first place in Region 13 with three games left.

BOX ELDER 2, VIEWMONT 1

BOUNTIFUL — Nate Reynolds and Justin Daniels scored in the first half and Box Elder held on in the second half to beat first-place Viewmont.

Trevor Port and Tyson Low assisted the goals for Box Elder (6-4, 3-1 Region 5).

Viewmont (3-5, 3-2) didn’t report stats.

MORGAN 2, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 1

LAYTON — Wyatt Grow and Ty Warner scored for Morgan, which handed Layton Christian (11-3, 7-1) its first region loss of the season.

Tanner Stanley made six saves for Morgan (9-3, 6-1 Region 13).
