Prep playoff roundup: Fremont baseball edges Lone Peak to advance
PROVO — Bridger Clontz batted 3 for 3 with an RBI and earned the win on the mound in four innings with four hits and four strikeouts as No. 1 Fremont High baseball eliminated No. 4 Lone Peak 7-6 in the 6A state tournament one-loss bracket Tuesday at BYU.
Cannon Koford hit a two-run double and Brigg Grange added an RBI double for Fremont (27-2). Logan Penland went 2 for 4 and drove in one. Jaxon Larkin had a hit and an RBI.
The Silverwolves advance to face Farmington at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in an elimination game.
AMERICAN FORK 5, FARMINGTON 2
PROVO — No. 9 Farmington fell behind 5-0 on a two-run homer from No. 5 American Fork’s Josh Rojas in the fourth inning and the Phoenix lost the 6A winner’s bracket game.
Farmington (21-10) plated two runs in the seventh. Landon Day doubled in a run in the final frame. Jack Hansen and Landon Tanner had their team’s other hits with a single each.
The Phoenix get a rematch of Monday’s game against No. 1 Fremont at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in an elimination game.
LEHI 5, BOUNTIFUL 1
OREM — Late Tuesday night, No. 2 Lehi scored all five runs in the third inning and beat No. 10 Bountiful, sending the Redhawks down to the 5A state tournament one-loss bracket.
Kaisan Averett led the Redhawks (22-10) with a 3-for-3 night at the plate. Drew Beck hit 2 for 3. Cole McSwain started the game and pitched four innings with five runs allowed. Jackson Kyhl and Carson Carter each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
GIRLS LACROSSE
BEAR RIVER 16, SKY VIEW 2
SALT LAKE CITY — No. 1 Bear River scored the game’s first 15 goals to beat No. 5 Sky View (6-8) in the 4A girls lacrosse semifinal at Judge Memorial High School.
Bear River (18-0) will face No. 3 Juan Diego Catholic (14-4) in the 4A championship game at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
SKYRIDGE 22, SYRACUSE 11
SALT LAKE CITY — No. 5 Syracuse tied the score 6-6 with 8:27 left in the first half, then No. 1 Skyridge (17-1) scored 11 straight goals to win the 6A semifinal contest at Westminster College
Syracuse finishes the season with a 14-5 record.
