Prep roundup: Ogden, Roy, Northridge softball score big wins; Ogden baseball title hopes still alive
OGDEN — A day after a 14-10 road win at Ben Lomond, Ogden High softball pitcher Abby Thompson struck out seven and gave up one hit in a five-inning, 13-0 win over the Scots on Wednesday.
Thompson doubled and drove in two runs for Ogden (5-5, 2-5 Region 13), which hit six doubles as a team. Jill Wood hit two doubles and Izzy Rounkles batted 3 for 3.
Reagan Wilcox had Ben Lomond’s (5-10, 0-6) lone hit.
ROY 16, KEARNS 1
KEARNS — Lauren Ashby batted 3 for 3 with four RBIs in Roy’s four-inning region win.
Lily Garcia, Izzy Cline and Aspen Johnson had two-hit days for Roy (5-12, 4-7 Region 2).
Cline allowed one earned run in four innings pitched with two strikeouts for the Royals.
NORTHRIDGE 16, WOODS CROSS 0
LAYTON — Amaya Porter homered, doubled, drove in four runs and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in a three-inning shutout for Northridge.
Dezirae Saldana, Jennika Weaver and Delaney Robinson each batted 3 for 3 for Northridge (6-5, 3-3 Region 5).
BOX ELDER 21, VIEWMONT 15
BOUNTIFUL — Tied 14-14 after four innings, Box Elder outscored Viewmont 7-1 the rest of the way in a shootout win.
Kellie Malan hit 2 for 4 with five RBIs for Box Elder (11-4, 5-1 Region 5) and Malena Benson hit 2 for 5 with four RBIs and a double. Sydney Stokes hit 4 for 4 with two walks and four stolen bases.
BEAR RIVER 2, MOUNTAIN CREST 0
HYRUM — Emma Harrow pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits with three strikeouts as Bear River kept within a game of the region’s first-place team, Ridgeline.
Kate Dahle hit 2 for 4 with a triple for Bear River (13-2, 5-1). The Bears scored both runs in the sixth inning.

GRANTSVILLE 9, OGDEN 5
GRANTSVILLE — Sean Garceau and Diego DeLeon hit home runs, but it wasn’t enough for Ogden to overcome Grantsville’s late scoring surge as the Cowboys (15-7, 10-1 Region 13) clinched at least a share of the region championship with the win..
Garceau batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Ogden (11-4, 5-2 Region 13), and gave up two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
Ogden can still win a share of the title itself, but it now requires winning the remaining five regular-season games starting Thursday against South Summit, Friday against Grantsville, Saturday against Ben Lomond (twice) and Tuesday again versus Ben Lomond.
FREMONT 10, WEBER 3
PLAIN CITY — Anthony Marziale struck out seven batters, allowed one run in five innings pitched and batted 2 for 2 with a walk in Fremont’s win.
Calvin Morrow hit two doubles and had four RBIs for Fremont (14-3, 10-1 Region 1). Logan Penland and Karston Jamison batted 3 for 4. Peyton Surrage, Landon Salvesen and Brigg Grange had two hits each.
Ashton Burnett hit a double with one RBI and a sacrifice fly for Weber (3-12, 2-8 Region 1).
LAYTON 11, CLEARFIELD 1
CLEARFIELD — Ryder Gates allowed five hits and one earned run in a five-inning region win for Layton.
Eli Anderson batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a double for Layton (9-7, 9-4 Region 1). Sam Godfrey hit 2 for 3. Fish Manning hit a double and walked three times in four plate appearances.
Hudson Meyer hit a double for Clearfield (2-15, 0-11 Region 1) and Colt Chambers drove in the team’s lone run.
DAVIS 10, FARMINGTON 0
KAYSVILLE — Cory Bridges allowed one hit and struck out six batters in Davis’ five-inning win.
Pierson Flood batted 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Davis (8-9, 8-3 Region 1) and Gavin Jacks hit 3 for 3.
Jaxon Ball had Farmington’s (7-11, 6-8 Region 1) only hit.
KEARNS 6, ROY 5
ROY — Roy loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t come all the way back.
Wyatt Kline batted 3 for 4 and Tyler Clark hit two doubles for Roy (8-8, 7-4 Region 2). Peyton Yoder batted 2 for 2 with two walks.
BOX ELDER 10, BONNEVILLE 0
BRIGHAM CITY — KJ Argyle struck out six batters in a five-inning shutout for Box Elder.
Argyle hit 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, Tyler Redington homered and Landen Golmon batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Box Elder (7-5-1, 4-4 Region 5).
Enrique Garcia batted 2 for 3 for Bonneville (2-11, 1-7) and Jaxon Hymas hit a double.
VIEWMONT 18, NORTHRIDGE 9
BOUNTIFUL — Northridge led 9-8 before surrendering a 10-run fifth inning in a region road loss.
Boston Wright batted 3 for 4 with a double for Northridge (4-10, 3-5 Region 5) and Kam Shirreffs had three RBIs.
BEAR RIVER 9, RIDGELINE 6
GARLAND — A seven-run third inning was enough for Bear River in a region home win.
Tyton Roche batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Bear River (10-6, 6-4 Region 11) and Holden Potter hit 2 for 4. Easton Goodliffe got the win on the mound, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
MORGAN 4, SOUTH SUMMIT 2
MORGAN — JJ Compton pitched a complete game as Morgan won its fourth game in a row.
Compton struck out 12 batters against four hits, four walks and two earned runs allowed for Morgan (5-14, 5-5 Region 13), and batted 2 for 3 with a double. Benjamin Harden batted 2 for 3 with a triple.
