WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville High boys basketball scored a bunch of points against Ogden on Wednesday night and Laker forward Ben Tesch scored his 27 points in bunches.

Tesch scored Bonneville’s first six points of the game and finished the quarter with eight. He totaled nine points in the second stanza as the Lakers pulled away at the break.

A four-point third period was followed by six more in the final frame and Bonneville led by as many as 27 points as the game wound down. Tesch was effective from the field with nine field goals and splashed home 8 of 8 from the charity stripe.

The Lakers placed four players in double figures and coasted past Ogden 79-62 in a non-region beatdown.

“I just came out hot; came out ready to play. My teammates got me the ball a lot,” Tesch said. “If I get on a roll, I have more confidence going down the court … more motivation to go score again.”

Ogden (7-3) hung tough early and led late in the first quarter before Zac Combe hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, giving the Lakers a 16-14 edge after one.

Teegan Porter drained a trey for the Tigers at the 6:15 mark of the second quarter, closing the gap to 21-20, but Tesch and the Lakers countered with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes.

Tesch had seven of those nine points and Bonneville (4-4) maintained its 10-point lead at the half.

Any thoughts Ogden had of a comeback quickly vanished when Bonneville opened the third quarter with a 14-2 burst out of the gate.

While Tesch idled, Davis DeGroot scored five straight Nick Sebahar added four during the run.

“Sharing the ball; playing as a team. Getting points for myself, but playing team basketball is the main thing,” Tesch said. “There was more passing, more trying to win the game at that point. We started hot, playing together and hit them in the face. That’s what we did.”

The Bonneville lead expanded to 72-45 before Ogden narrowed the margin at the end, playing scrappy and never giving up.

Hayden Ashbridge came off the bench and scored 12 points for the Lakers, while Jackson Call and Combe checked in with 11 each.

For Ogden, Stockton Marriott netted 15, including 5 of 7 from the free-throw line. George Blodgett had 12 off the bench and Porter also had 12 points. Niyol Hauet also scored double digits with 10.
