Prep roundup: Ogden baseball wins 1st playoff game since 1999, will host 1-loss contest

PRICE — For the first time since the 1990s, Ogden High’s baseball team won a postseason game by beating North Sanpete 6-3 in the 3A tournament one-loss bracket at Carbon High.

Diego DeLeon pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs for No. 7 Ogden (17-6). Carter Rasmussen and Kolton Rich batted 2 for 3 and Sean Garceau hit 2 for 4.

The Tigers will now host a one-loss game at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, against No. 8 Emery.

GRANTSVILLE 4, OGDEN 0

PRICE — Grantsville’s Kyle Brimhall threw a two-hit shutout in the first round of the 3A baseball state tournament to send No. 7 Ogden to the one-loss bracket Saturday.

BEAR RIVER 14, WESTLAKE 10

GARLAND — Talon Marble hit a triple, two doubles and drove in three runs in Bear River’s (13-9) non-region win. Kolton Summers batted 4 for 4 and Degan Rigby had three RBIs.

CORNER CANYON 11, ROY, 6

DRAPER — Peyton Yoder batted 2 for 3 and Tyler Clark went 2 for 5 as Roy (10-12) lost a non-region game, undone by six errors.

SOFTBALL

MORGAN 14, OGDEN 9

CEDAR CITY — No. 7 Morgan weathered a late Ogden comeback to beat the No. 10 Tigers in the teams’ 3A state tournament first-round game.

Kaiya Peterson batted 3 for 5 with five RBIs, a homer and a double for Morgan (11-9). Lexi Hardman hit 3 for 3 and scored five runs and Josei Kelly batted 3 for 5 with three RBIs, a homer and a double. Elena Birkeland and Eva Birkeland had three base hits each.

Abby Thompson batted 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases for Ogden. Aracely DeLeon hit 2 for 4 with a double.

With Morgan ahead 11-3, Ogden scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to get within two before the Trojans plated three in the bottom half.

Morgan will face No. 2 Canyon View at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Spanish Fork Softball Complex.

Later Saturday, Ogden lost 14-10 to Juab in the one-loss bracket to see its season come to a close with a record of 5-8. Details of that game weren’t available by publication time.

BEN LOMOND 14, DELTA 13

GRANTSVILLE — Ofa Arreguin hit a homer, a double and drove in three runs as No. 16 Ben Lomond won its 3A state tournament play-in game. Reagan Wilcox hit two doubles and drove in four runs.

The Scots led 9-3 after four innings before Delta scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 10-9 lead. BL responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth and held off the Rabbits’ rally in the seventh.

GRANTSVILLE 20, BEN LOMOND 0

GRANTSVILLE — In the first round of the 3A state tournament, Ben Lomond lost in three innings against No. 1 Grantsville and didn’t record a baserunner.

EMERY 15, BEN LOMOND 0

GRANTSVILLE — In the 3A one-loss bracket, Ben Lomond’s season ended with a four-inning loss to No. 8 Emery. The Scots finish the season with a 7-14 record.

NORTHRIDGE 16, LOGAN 3

LOGAN — Aubrie Salomon pitched a five-inning complete game and gave up two earned runs with five strikeouts in Northridge’s (8-12) non-region win. Kaydence Chournos hit two doubles. Kaylee Sherreffs and Dezirae Sadana had three RBIs each.
