Prep basketball roundup: Weber boys hold off Fremont; Ogden finishes with win

PLAIN CITY — Weber High boys basketball led 34-13 at the half and held off a Fremont charge in the fourth quarter for a 72-61 region road win Friday night.

Hunter Schenck led Weber (15-6, 5-3 Region 1) with 24 points and two 3-pointers. Malachi Spencer netted 21 points and Will Stratford added nine points.

Hunter Hansen led all scorers with 25 points and two 3-pointers for Fremont (11-10, 3-5). Easton Duft scored 15 points while Tyler Allen and Ryker Saunders each added eight points.

OGDEN 59, GRANTSVILLE 51

OGDEN — Stockton Marriott scored 22 points to lead Region 13 champion Ogden to a win over Grantsville to conclude the regular season.

Nyiol Hauet scored 10 points with two 3-pointers for Ogden (18-5, 9-1 Region 13). Teegan Porter scored nine points and Jesse Jones added eight.

DAVIS 52, SYRACUSE 51

SYRACUSE — Davis led 44-34 after three quarters and edged past a Syracuse comeback effort.

Coleman Atwater totaled 16 points, five rebounds and three assists for Davis (15-6, 6-2 Region 1). Tradon Bessinger added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Syracuse (7-14, 0-8) got 15 points apiece from Logan Goddard and Beckham Rees. Goddard added seven rebounds and Brad Trejo dished five assists.

LAYTON 71, FARMINGTON 66

FARMINGTON — Farmington led 20-17 after one quarter, then Layton tied the game 37-37 at the half and slowly pulled away for a region win.

Dave Katoa led all scorers with 23 points and two 3-pointers for Layton (20-1, 8-0 Region 1). Mekhi Martin tallied 19 points and two treys. Cade Tidwell netted 11 points and KJ Miller added nine.

Paul Beattie paced Farmington (11-9, 2-6) with 21 points. Braden Larsen scored 15 points and Jayden Haskell added 12.

BOX ELDER 55, BONNEVILLE 50

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Elijah Kersey scored 15 points in the fourth quarter as Box Elder turned a 36-33 deficit after three frames into a region win at Bonneville.

Kersey scored a game-high 34 points with three 3-pointers — all in the pivotal final frame — for Box Elder (8-13, 7-5 Region 5). Trevor Wilkinson added 13 points and Max Isaccson scored four.

Hayden Ashbridge led Bonneville (7-14, 3-8 Region 5) with 19 points and Jaxon Johnson added 11 points.

NORTHRIDGE 75, VIEWMONT 60

LAYTON — Northridge won the second quarter 24-9 to take control in a region win over Viewmont (7-14, 6-6 Region 5).

Logan Birt led Northridge (10-11, 9-3) with 15 points. Bentley Whitear scored 14 points, Josh Kitchen tallied 13 and Cael Lake added 12 points with two 3-pointers.

BEAR RIVER 63, MTN CREST 51

GARLAND — Bear River outscored Mountain Crest 52-40 over the final three quarters in a region win.

Gehrig Marble led Bear River (14-6, 4-4 Region 11) with 17 points. Jace Roberts, Brayden Ritter, Kyver Jensen and Bridger Barfuss each scored nine points.

MORGAN 82, BEN LOMOND 59

MORGAN — Morgan outscored Ben Lomond 69-43 after the first quarter for a region win.

Bracken Saunders led all scorers with 18 points for Morgan (12-11, 6-4 Region 13). Derrick Tilby netted 17 points and Kolten Asay added 15.

Malakai Mack paced Ben Lomond (5-20, 0-10) with 16 points. Jake East tallied 12 points and Deshawn Holland scored 10.

WOODS CROSS 53, ROY 52

ROY — Woods Cross (6-15, 5-7 Region 5) rallied from a 44-39 deficit at the end of the third to topple Roy on the road.

Colby Frokjer made four of his team’s five 3-pointers, scoring 18 points to lead Roy (10-11, 5-7). Bronson Belnap scored 11 points, and Dahlen Pontius added nine points and 10 rebounds.

MAESER PREP 54, ST. JOSEPH 42

LINDON — Gavin Wolf scored 16 points with five 3-pointers as St. Joseph (2-14, 0-10 Region 17) fell in region play at Maeser Prep.

PLAIN CITY — Fremont outscored Weber 37-9 in the second half to turn a 16-16 halftime tie into a region win.

Maya Jensen led Fremont (11-10, 5-3 Region 1) with 13 points. Abby Christensen netted 11 points with two 3-pointers while Kale Brian and Olivia Surrage each scored seven points.

Abby Sayer paced Weber (6-15, 1-7) with 13 points and three 3-pointers. Logyn Howell and Sunee Shaw each scored three points.

LAYTON 41, FARMINGTON 27

FARMINGTON — Layton outscored Farmington 12-2 in the third quarter in a region road win.

Avery Potter led Layton (8-13, 3-5 Region 1) with 11 points. Oakley Homer tallied 10 points with two 3-pointers. Ashlynn Powell added seven points.

Brynn Ryan scored a game-high 12 points for Farmington (2-16, 1-7). Breklyn Archibald netted six points and Kate Garff added five.

BOX ELDER 81, BONNEVILLE 58

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Ashlyn Wight scored 24 points with four 3-pointers to lead Box Elder to a region win at Bonneville.

Jocely Vranes tallied 13 points for Box Elder (12-5, 9-3 Region 5). Kaydence Barker netted 12 points and Kamri Andersen added 10.

Sidnee Geerdes paced Bonneville (4-17, 0-12) with 19 points. Tyler Moss netted 11 points with three 3-pointers. Baya Jimenez tallied 10 points while Whitni Johnson and Baylee Andreasen each added nine points.

ROY 55, WOODS CROSS 47

ROY — A 16-5 second quarter fueled Roy to a home region win over Woods Cross (10-11, 5-7 Region 5).

Ariana Strain shot 3 of 5 from downtown to lead Roy (7-14, 3-9) with 15 points. Ellen Speredon totaled seven points and 10 rebounds. Rihanna Jones added six points and Sienna Bodily grabbed seven rebounds. Roy held WX to 1 of 16 from the 3-point line.

BOUNTIFUL 50, CLEARFIELD 46

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful led 29-15 at the half and held off a Clearfield charge for a region win.

Jayla Kearns led Clearfield (15-5, 8-4 Region 5) with 11 points. Izzy Wyaskett and Ciara De La O each added nine points. Xiyah Yarbrough scored eight points with two 3-pointers.

Milika Satuala led all scorers with 24 points for Bountiful (18-3, 12-0).

GRANTSVILLE 61, OGDEN 23

GRANTSVILLE — Ogden trailed 24-5 after the first quarter in a region loss Thursday at Grantsville.

Jill Wood led Ogden (7-16, 3-7 Region 13) with eight points, including 4-of-4 from the foul line. Izzy Nestel scored six points on two 3-pointers. Lily Gonzalez had five points and one trey. Salote Tonga added four points.

UMA-CW 27, UMA-HILL FIELD 18

RIVERDALE — Utah Military Academy-Hill Field (Riverdale) scored three first-half points in a region loss Thursday to Utah Military-Camp Williams (Lehi).

Eliana Dalley led UMA-Hill Field (3-11, 3-5 Region 16) with five points. Cassidee Zollinger and Giselle Patino each scored four points.

JUDGE MEM 46, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 42

LAYTON — Layton Christian led 26-22 at the half but couldn’t hold that lead in a region loss to Judge Memorial Thursday.

Ava Smith led Layton Christian (11-11, 5-3 Region 14) with 12 points. ‬Jessica McKain scored nine points and Asmin Tanhan added six.
